We stayed here for 3 nights and had a very magical experience. The old family home has been made into an exquisite modern upscale event. We had the original beams evident in our room. Although the room was a little small, it was perfect. We had to learn how to shower with a hand held shower sitting in the bath - possibly due to the fact that the top floor rooms were "under the eaves" with interesting angles. There was a lovely bar areas whose floor was the look through ceiling into the swimming pool. An outside courtyard provided a fun place to meet others, have an afternoon appertif. I enjoyed that there was no indoor smoking in France. The staff was so friendly, especially the young valet staff who rescued us out of a construction area. The location was perfect for exploration of historical Rouen.

We spent one night here and were quite pleased. We had a traditional room, which was a completely modern room that was in the older section of the hotel. The room was quite large, very comfortably furnished, with a modern bathroom. The hotel’s location was excellent, just a few blocks from the cathedral and numerous restaurants. There is limited space in the hotel valet parking, so if you want to use that be sure to reserve it when you reserve your room. The alternative is a large municipal garage only a block away. The bell staff was particularly helpful when we arrived.

As of October 2018, the street by which one approaches the hotel by car is narrowed by construction. Be prepared to improvise a bit as you drive in.

We would certainly return to this hotel should we visit Rouen again.

We selected Rouen as our base of operations for our five days in Normandy. I picked Hotel de Bourgtheroulde because of my Marriott status but would choose it again if it were no longer a Marriott. We went to Mont Saint Michel, the D Day beaches (long day), Giverny (be there when they open) and Honfluer (take the mini train tour). Of course you will want to see the sights of Rouen. The hotel did a great job of recommending restaurants and booking a D Day tour for us. They serve a nice breakfast which we took advantage of every morning. We self parked at what has to be the nicest parking garage I've ever used and it's right at the hotel. The hotel is located just steps away from the central market where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. So many things are just a short walk.

We stayed for 2 nights at the Hotel de Bourgtheroulde and were very impressed with the building and the decor. We spent the first night in a comfortable, modern room that was next door to the hotel air-conditioning plant. So, unfortunately, there was a constant hum which my wife, in particular, found very off putting. Luckily, we travel with good earplugs, and were able to sleep through it. We mentioned the problem to the staff in the morning and they immediately managed to find us another room and moved all our luggage for us. We hadn't booked valet parking, but the hotel was able to accommodate us in that respect. So, a slightly mixed experience. We paid €175 for the first night and €185 for the second night. I think, for that money, in a 5-star hotel, every room should be completely free of noise. However, the staff recognised the problem and dealt with it very efficiently. The hotel location is excellent, though with roadworks all over the city, not the easiest place to navigate to at that time.

Room Tip: Check room location for extraneous noise

We recently stayed 4 nights here and enjoyed it. Here are what we liked, and some wishes:

What we liked:
- The hotel was in a well renovated old building so it maintained its old world charms. From the outside and the entrance, one could feel the difference.
- The location of this hotel was excellent! It is within easy walking distance to many of the landmarks in the old town, and to many good restaurants.
- The hotel staff was outstanding! Friendly, courteous, and helpful. Because of the fact that some big construction was going on by the hotel, all parking must be valet. The hotel staff was very prompt in getting the car in and out, and in helping with the luggage. Without such help, it would have been difficult.
- Our room, bed and bedding were comfortable. The towels were of good quality. Bathroom was of adequate size (we had a standard room). The bedding was changed every day and the room made well.

The few things we wish were better:

- Our room might be perfect for one person, but too small for two people. There was not even room for a nightstand on one side of the bed.
- The water in the bathroom somehow was not able to get hot, either the sink or the shower. We did not report or get help, but wished it could be hotter.

We did not use any other facilities offered by the hotel, so could not comment on them.
