Could not be closer to Lille Flanders station but reasonably quiet due to double glazing. No frills but everything was clean and modern and the breakfast room was adequate and good value. Rooms were quite small but had everything I needed.

Room tip: Rooms not facing the station are quieter

The hotel staff could not have been more helpful. The hotel was very clean and tidy. We were very well placed for the giant flea market, we turned the corner from the hotel and we were browsing. We walked seven miles on the Saturday!

Room tip: We had a room at the back, no view but it was very quiet.

Good bits first. It is perfectly located right across the road from Lille Flanders train station, right on the square. It is also recently refurbished, clean, comfortable and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

However I had two issues. The WiFi was painfully slow to the point of being unusable and indeed didn't work at all on my last night. Why hotels can't supply stable and fast WiFi without login pages scraping your personal data I'm not sure, but poor WiFi is no good when you are business!

Secondly, my roommwas at the front of the hotel and therefore above the square and the bars below. Therefore it was quite noisy which doesn't normally bother me but the lack of Aircon meant I needed to open a window at night to cool the room down hence the noise from the bars followed by the owners pulling in tables at midnight and the refuse collectors at 6am. I could cope with that but with no screens on the windows, every insect in Lille popped in to take a bite out of me.

I understand not all hotels require Aircon but if they dont have it, please put screens on the windows so they can be opened without becoming an all you can eat buffet for the local beasties.
