We stayed for 4 days and are already planning to return! The apartment is beautifully presented and furnished, within a typical French building - complete with shutters, old features and lovely furniture. Mike, our host, took time to give us a tour of the house and recommend places to visit, restaurants etc. The location is superb - in town but in a quiet street, 2 minutes from the main square (Place Carnot) with a host of restaurants, bistros and a fantastic market 3 days a week. The Canal du Midi is around a ten minute walk through town with a range of trips on offer - so relaxing. When we return we will travel further afield but we cannot recommend the Apartment St Michel highly enough as the place to stay in Carcassonne.
We absolutely loved our stay at Apartment Saint Michel from start to finish. The owners were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. On our arrival we were given useful information about Carcassonne, including a town map, something we thought was a nice touch as it meant we didn't have to hunt down the Tourist Information Centre before we could explore. We were also told about other non-published events such as market days and brocante flea-markets including where they were on the map.
As for the apartment, it is decorated in a traditional beautiful decor throughout. The main lounge with a comfy sofa and a 4 seater table was spacious, and served as a fine place to chillout in the evening after a good explore. The apartment is located perfectly, close to the Bastide old town with bakeries, supermarket and restaurants just around the corner. We chose to eat at Bistrot D'Alice on the first evening and La P'tite Table on the 2nd night, we'd definitely recommend these too! The kitchen offered a great space for making some lovely breakfasts, popping round the corner to the bakery for croissants and baguette to go with eggs, charcuterie and cheese, which we enjoyed eating in the secluded courtyard garden.
Carcassonne also has the fine Cite! The apartment is just a short walk away to enjoy this unbelievable fortification.
One of the best stays we have ever had, Merci!
Our tips & places we'd recommend for other travellers:
Carcassonne Cite and Castle.
Bistrot D'Alice - Traditional food and decor.
La P'Tite Table - Relaxed restaurant serving quality tasty french hamburgers.
Caprespine Cave (a short drive north).
Lac de la Cavayere (a short drive).
Jardin du Calvaire (5 min walk).
The apartment is perfectly situated - near enough to the town for convenience but not the noise. Mike & Peter we’re fantastic with their information and suggestions of restaurants. The apartment is very well furnished and every need (including the corkscrew) anticipated. We spent 3 nights celebration my husband’s 50th birthday and could not have asked for more. I would highly recommend and look forward to visiting again.
Just got back from three nights in Carcassonne, lovely place, lovely apartment.
Had flight issues and was three hours late arriving but Mike there to great us and show us around.
Great location for the sights, bars and restaurants. Would certainly recommend this place.
A beautiful and deluxe apartment. Michael and Peter are the perfect hosts. We stayed for 2 weeks and were really able to enjoy the city of Carcassonne and feel what it would be like to live there. We loved shopping in the weekly markets, and the kitchen was perfect for making meals. Restaurants were in easy walking distance as was the train, and afternoon coffee and people watching! Our day was topped off with an evening at the wine festival and then strolling back to the sweet apartment, just the get-away we needed. Would most definitely rent this apartment again! Thanks
