A completely unique experience ! The scenery is absolutely amazing. The weather we had - some clouds in the sky with an evening late sprint light - made it even more beautiful. Who wouldn't dream of having a fancy dinner in the middle of Paris with a view of Notre Dame ?
The service was thought up to the smallest detail. The light was particularly striking to me - with the windows dimmer automatically activated when the sun was setting, and artificial light maintaining the exact light level across the whole evening. Truly masterful.
Food wise, it was the kind of perfection you would expect out of a 3 star michelin. The menu itself hosts a lot of history - which was beautifully explained by the attendants. One difference from usual restaurants is the portions - I simply wasn't hungry in the end, the pace was really good and we didn't feel we had to use the bread to fill us up (it already happened to be used in other places).
I would have 2-3 improvement comments though. After all you still expect absolute perfection when you end up with a price tag around 600 euros / person 🙂
The wine book (this thing weighs 5 kilos) was overwhelming and unnecessary. I understand the tradition, and I'm sure there are customers that would pick up the precise wine they want. But how is that compatible with the offer they made not to share the menu upfront ? Being an expert or not, you want to know the food if you have to choose the wine ! That didn't make sense to me.
Also the service was perfect but slightly overwhelming. I had a direct view to the kitchen, there were always 5-6 waiters by the kitchen all the time - it felt a bit like an ant farm. I have to point out this has nothing to do with the individual skill of the attendants (it was perfect) but more the restaurant layout itself.
Finally I'd like to add that though there was a clear effort on inclusion with attendants from all over the world, most of the non-caucasian waiters were simply bringing the food and not presenting it to customers.
Was it worth the price we paid ? Yes, because of Paris, the scenery and the overall luxury experience. If you want to just enjoy food & wine, there are cheaper options.
