We have been waiting to stay in this hotel since its massive renovation and reopening last year. We stopped over in Paris and Viola, it wasn't a tiny bit disappointing. Located in the 16th arrondissement next to Bois de Boulogne, a little bit out of the tourists' map, the hotel was given such a beautiful life again, knowing its glamorous heydays then the sad dilapidation for decades. It is chic, groovy, sexy while remains truth to its art deco origin and pool centered lifestyle. The public space was nicely decorated with interesting and authentic art and vintage design pieces. The suite we had was spacious, overlooking the pool, with a very very comfortable bed. The service was attentive although the breakfast tends to be very busy and crowded. Finally, the pool was divine, as well as the roof deck tapas bar and wildflowers garden. If you have been to Paris many times and no longer need to be in the midst of everything, this can be a paradise and we can still take the Metro to get into the crowd easily. We had a fabulous time and will come back for sure.

Room Tip: room with a view of the pool, beautiful especially at night.

Hotel perfect in almost every way. Very contemporary, spotless, (apart from a hair in the sink on arrival) all mod cons, delicious breakfasts (best scrambled egg this side of my kitchen) .... staff helpful, friendly..........except.........

The location is a bit out of town. I had viewed the internet and it said that a taxi from Molitor to Louvre would be about 9 euros by Uber.
Our friend came to visit from Montparnasse. Her regular taxi fare was 15euros.
For her return we asked the dismissive silver-haired concierge/hall porter to book us a taxi.. He said the fare would be 25 euros. We were astonished at the difference in price, but that was not all.
My friend told me that the taxi charged her 32 euros for her return journey!!! Disgraceful.

So we took it up with the hall porter. Why the price? His answer was that when a cab is booked it starts to charge from the time of the booking, wherever the taxi might be located. He also said that Uber was illegal in France. Not true we discovered, too late.

We learnt to get other cabs by schlepping to the nearest taxi rank, about a 10-15 minute walk away, in Blvd Exelmans.

However we could not possibly trundle that distance with our luggage, on our last day, so they had us over a barrel when it came to getting a taxi from the Molitor to Gare du Nord for the Eurostar return journey.
There was a younger, friendly Hall Porter/Concierge on duty and he booked us a taxi at the (still) exorbitant rate of 40 euros. His explanation of the price hike was (again) that the taxi must charge from wherever it starts its journey. We were advised to check what was on the meter when the taxi arrived.
We reluctantly accepted this gross amount but when the taxi got round the corner I remembered to ask the driver what was on the meter. The taxi driver said he didn't have a meter, there was an agreed price. He looked it up and told us the quote was 50.75 euros!!!! WHAT?

So we phoned the Molitor reception and made a complaint. Our call obviously cost a whole lot more as it was on a UK mobile phone and had to go thru the UK to connect.
They kept us waiting for ages (even though they had been very convivial when we left and had given them generous tips......Not for the wizened Concierge, who was hanging around expecting a tip, but he had done sweet fanny adams for us, and we purposely did not tip him.)
The concierge eventually spoke ON OUR PHONE for ages arguing with the driver. Apparently he told the driver that the original amount quoted was 40 Euros but it was wrong and should be 50.75!! We heard the convo and the poor driver was saying that if he had to reduce the fare he would have to pay the difference out of his own pocket. Disgusting, we thought.
The Molitor said they would phone the driver back on HIS phone and see if something could be arranged for a discount.
Guess what? No return phone call. We paid the taxi driver the full amount and of course a generous tip as he had been most congenial.

On further investigation we also learnt that the amount the taxi driver would receive for this journey was 22 euros!!!!!!!
OK so some of the extra money was for the taxi company. But HOW MUCH WAS THE MOLITOR TAKING IN BUNCE?
It's a complete liberty.

We had had a wonderful stay at the Molitor. My partner was doing a musical arrangement for a French singing star. Everything had gone swimmingly. Especially as the hotel has the most amazing art deco swimming pool. Our room was fabulous. Everything one could need. The top floor terrace bar was friendly and barbecued prawns delicious. Staff extra nice. My partner thought the music/DJ was too loud and repetitive. But he is a musician and has very sensitive hearing. I personally ignored it. But they did kindly turn down the bass.

Our preference of wine was Cloudy Bay which was 78 euros a bottle! Yes I know, we should drink the French wine but we love Oyster Bay/Cloudy Bay. So be it.
We didn't mind paying the prices but we objected to later being totally conned over the taxi fares.
The concierge shenanigans with the taxi put a damper on what had been an exhilarating trip.
The Molitor would do a real service to their guests if they provided a reasonably-priced vehicle service to the centre. Or move the hotel nearer to the centre!

Room Tip: Swimming pool view.

I think that we now have a new favourite hotel in Paris, The service, comfort all are of the highest standard. A great roof top bar, superb breakfast and comfortable loungers beside the legendry pool.
A further (indoor) pool, spa and gym, bedrooms that are quite and well furnished.
If you doubt that you are living history, just look up Piscine Molitor on Wikipedia!

We visited Molitor last week as a family to celebrate my 40th birthday. We have travelled all over the world in 3-5* hotels.

Check in was welcoming, cases whisked upstairs and concierge took us to our room which was beautiful. Spent the afternoon in the sunshine at the spectacular outdoor pool. Poolside service is definitely needed and expected and this was lacking-especially as the rooftop bar was closed for an event. There is a cabin to buy limited snacks and beer-it would have been nice to order cocktails without going into the restaurant and to have had a menu for light food. You end up walking in circles as there are only 2 ways to enter/exit the pool area which is a little frustrating. We dined in the restaurant which was nice with attentive service but overpriced for the quality of the food. No vegetarian option at all so the chef made me pasta.

On day 2 it rained and this is where we felt there was a lack of service at Molitor. Unless you want to use the indoor pool, there is only a small lounge to sit in or the lobby. There is a covered outdoor area or the rooftop bar but both are cold if the weather isn't good. We tried to order champagne and sit inside but were told by a female manager in the bar area that we had to take them outside (when it was raining) and that the lounge (where people were sitting) was closed. Rather strange and not 5* service. Instead we asked for glasses and drank our own champagne in the room.

We moved on to a 3* in the centre of Paris to continue our trip and the staff there were as attentive if not more so. I'm left feeling a little underwhelmed by Molitor but maybe my expectations were too high?

This beautiful renovation really is paradise found for serious swimmers and Art Deco lovers alike. Check out its history video at web site. We happened to arrive on the hottest weekend of the year (August Bank Hols), so maxed out on use of the huge outdoor pool and sunbathing areas. Early morning lengths in the indoor 33m pool. Fantastic Clarins facial as part of our booking with Secret Escapes. Easy access to central Paris with Metro short walk away. Great private tour of Roland Gaross tennis stadium which sits around corner. All in all a great weekend in the city of love :>

Room Tip: All look into the fantastic central outdoor pool
