Nice, solid hotel in the heart of the fifth arrondissement. Rooms, which are a decent size by Paris standards, have been recently updated, with flat-screen tv and very good a/c. In addition to the usual double rooms, there are a few triples available which are small but comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful, and there is a coffee machine in the lobby where you can grab a decent espresso for only 2 euros. Free wifi works well -- though be sure to get a separate code for each of your devices. You can choose to eat breakfast at the hotel or simply dash out and sample one of the many excellent boulangerie/cafes in the area. Easy walking distance to Metro (Jussieu) and many excellent tourist sites and museums. Recommended!

I stayed at this awful hotel with my mum during Christmas last year. The reception had a very rude lady.

At first we were given a tiny hexagonal room. While I understand that real estate in Paris must be high, nobody deserves to spend so much money and be stuffed into a hexagonal rat hole. It was specially inconvenient for my mother as she had to hop over the bed just to reach the bathroom or even open the door.

The elevator is tiny and is always used by the staff for taking cleaning equipment up and taking soiled bedsheets and towels down. Very rarely will you be able to enter the elevator with less than 5 minutes of patient waiting.

The next day we found that other hotels along the same street offered beautiful, spacious and well maintained rooms at lower tariffs. When we spoke to the reception if we could shift out, she was hostile, rude and unprofessional. She could've explained the hotel policy in a gracious manner like most self-respecting hotels and we would've understood.

What was SHOCKING is that the Minerve Hotel clandestinely tried to deduct the entire tariff for our 5 day stay that day itself using our credit card details with which we had made the booking without our knowing ! This is unacceptable and appalling by any standards . No hotel has EVER secretly used credit card details to take money from a guest.

We spent our entire stay at Minerve as we had no other option. The ceilings are shabby and you can see parts of it falling off . The bathroom desperately needed renovation.

Paris is a beautiful city and we enjoyed every bit of it and didn't let our awful hotel ruin it for us :)

I wish Tripadvisor had a Zero star rating for below standard places like The Minerve.

Stayed here for two nights in June, the rooms are small but have been recently renovated with modern upgrades and have everything you need.

The location is close to the regional train from the airport, as well as to the Metro network. Works as an excellent base for exploring Paris and and the many restaurants and cafés on the Latin Quarter in particular.

At first I was very pleased with the Hotel Minerve. It's in a nice location, it was clean and comfortable, and I even got a free upgrade to my room when I checked in.

My troubles began when I was checking out. At the end of my stay, as I was leaving for the airport, the manager said he needed me to go through my bag because the cleaning woman for my room said it was missing a hair dryer. I told him I had not taken any hair dryer and that I had not even seen a hair dryer in my room, but he insisted that I unpack my whole bag in front of everyone in the crowded lobby. This I did, to show him that there was not any hair dryer there but mine -- a travel-sized pink one -- as the manager himself told me, the hotel's is black. Even after I had disemboweled my entire bag to show him that I had not taken anything, the manager insisted that I was the only person who could have taken it, and that he had full trust in the cleaning woman, who had been with the hotel for twenty years. When I protested it did not make any sense for me to take the hair dryer because I had my own and because the hotel's hair dryer would not work in my country, he still insisted I must have taken it.

Finally it was discovered that another cleaning woman had taken the hotel's hair dryer out of my room "for security", and not told the first cleaning woman or the manager about it. The manager then said the problem was that he had a "bad team" (strange, considering that he had just insisted on his trust in the staff) and that he was sorry. It is appalling that he did not ask all members of his staff who had been to my room about the hair dryer before accusing me of theft and humiliating me in front of everyone in the lobby. Moreover, I do not understand why one of the cleaning women would take the hair dryer from my room "for security" -- did she also think for some reason that I was a thief? I was a guest of the hotel, but was treated like a criminal by three different employees.

I sent an email to the management with this information after I left, but the only reply I got came from the manager who accused me. He defended his decision, insisted that the upgrade I had received earlier compensated for the embarrassment, and held that he had been "discreet" and the people in the lobby were not paying attention (they obviously were... one of them asked me what was going on while he was talking to one of the cleaning women). It's been a week and I never heard back from the owner.

I would advise you stay somewhere else if you want to be treated like a proper guest of a hotel.

The best part about the Minerve was the location with easy access to the Metro, walking distance to Notre Dame and plenty of places to eat nearby.

The rooms are small but clean, staff were helpful enough (though we did struggle a bit at breakfast with non-English speaking staff there) and breakfast was available if you wanted to eat in (not great value but selection was ok if you like the convenience).
