Unbelievably huge complex of magnificent period architecture ... our guide told us if its 8 km of rotating artwork .. and that it will take 3 weeks to complete an indepth appreciation of everything on show (and that you might even not see everything as the artwork are displayed on a rotational basis). The grounds are magnificenr in themselves as they cover a fair.bit of real estate! Best to visit before 10am.

Thank ERIC L

This was quite amazing and a must see. Spend the day, take it all in. Tourist heaven, with lots to see. I'd go there again.

If you would stand in front of every object in the Louvre for only two minutes, going through it all would take you 150'days non stop.

Of course the site and all of its contents is marvelous, amazing, beautiful and unique. It is one of the best and biggest museums in the world. But if it belongs to this top category, it should have all of the descriptions in English. And it should have tours in English beyond the usual "welcome to the Louvre" tour. I mean, what is wrong with you French people denying to learn or even use English? It's not eighteenth century anymore!

Other than that, don't miss the beautiful terrace on the second floor of Richelieu wing. My favourite part is Egypt and collection of eastern antiquities.

I went to Paris at the end of November for my birthday. I was excited to go to The Louvre Museum and it was included in the tour package that I booked on Viator. I didn't research much on the museum but I knew that the Mona Lisa was there. I noticed that a lot of the art was biblical with stories associated with them. The top 5 things that I noticed during the tour of the Louvre:

1. There was a lot of Greek art. This was a pleasant surprise to me because I love Greek mythology. The Winged Victory of Samothrace is the oldest and the most influential statue in the world that is made of marble. The Venus de Milo statue and how she was sculpted was an also interesting story.
2. Great Sphinx of Tanis which is known as the guardian of the Louvre. It is an Egyptian statue that has a human head and a lions body. The history behind it was also intriguing.
3. Leonardo da Vinci's paintings are a must see when visiting the Louvre. You cannot leave without seeing the famous "Mona Lisa". Please be aware it is nowhere near as big as you think. However, it is the best known nd most visited painting by da Vinci.
4. The walls and ceilings were dressed in beautiful detailed art. This was also unexpected. On top of the amazing art hanging on the walls and sculptures at every turn. The ceilings in various areas of the Louvre was not left out of the artist eye.
5. I.M. Pei is the architectural glass and steel pyramids that are seen at the entrance of the Louvre. This art piece is how you now that you are at the right spot to view some of the most famous and influential artwork in the world.

The Louvre museum is a must when visiting Paris.
