We come every year for our wedding anniversary and the hotel always makse sure that our stay is a memorable one. The spa and pool are both excellent features and the range of treatments available well worth trying. The cost of our stay is not cheap but wqe consider it money well spent. We will return.

Room tip: Some of the inner facing rooms can be a bit noisy and the sea facing rooms have incredible views.

Stayed at the Hotel du Palais for a quick trip to celebrate our Anniversary prior to meeting friends in Bordeaux. We had a wonderful experience at the Hotel du Palais and look forward to returning. Perfect location and the staff was fabulous in ensuring we enjoyed our stay!

Room tip: Definitely get a view of the water, it is so pleasant to listen to the waves

If you want a truly special experience you need to stay here once in your life, This is a truly splendid hotel where the service is outstanding and unobtrusive. Everything about this place exudes quality and perfection and nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

Swim in the pool where Frank Sinatra was the first visitor, read the letter of thanks from Noel Coward following his stay there and note the plaque commemorating the fact that this Palace was built by Napoleon III for the Empress Eugenie - that's pretty much all you need to know !

The Hotel du Palais is a stupendously fabulous property. A former French Imperial Palace, the building is more luxurious than most of the palaces that tourists visit in Europe. It is the most stupendously beautiful hotel property I have ever stayed in.

The entrance to the hotel is grand, through a regal wrought-iron gate leading to a drive to the front of the palace. Entering the hotel, one feels like a visiting royal. The entry is stupendous, with marble floors and pillars to the ceiling, which must be fifty feet high. When one enters the door and looks straight ahead, one sees the large cocktail lounge with the fabled Eugenie restaurant beyond, surrounded by large glass windows with the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop.

The hotel is located on the ocean, so there are gorgeous views from many vantage points within the hotel and from the surrounding superb grounds. At the south end of the hotel, there is a veranda area, with tables where one can enjoy light dining and drinks. From there, one can take a walkway to the pool and the beach. From this part of the hotel, one enjoys views of the Atlantic, the beach and the beachfront hotels and apartment buildings, some of which date back to the late 19th or early 20th centuries. Unfortunately, many of the later buildings are ugly block style structures designed to maximize the number of units that the developer could sell at exorbitant prices.

Our room was very large, with 12 foot ceilings that are decorated with bas reliefs of cherubs and flowers. The furniture was period furniture which added to our enjoyment. Now for the negatives. The bathrooms have been remodeled and I suspect won awards for the marble floors and tiling. However, for modern hotel guests, there is a paucity of counter space for toiletries. Our bathroom was spacious and had two sinks, but very little space for toiletries. And, like many European bathrooms, it had a combination tub and shower. I am getting older, I must admit, and it was an effort to climb into the tub in order to shower.

In these days, a desk area is a must. Of course, there is a desk, but it is small, which makes it difficult to spread out with tourist books and other paraphernalia. Moreover, it is difficult to find outlets in order to charge my laptop and the inevitable cell phones, etc.

Nevertheless, despite these modern day shortcomings, the Hotel du Palais is a wonderful place to spend a few days in a famous resort town.

Place to be trusted, stayed many times, will come back many times. Intoxicating place, warm atmosphere, fantastic ocean, fine food, great wine card. Service in bars is disaster, but it is just to remind you about real life
