This is a beautiful bridge. We walked around the area and loved being here. The bridge was built during Napoleon's time for military reasons, so he could move his troops quickly towards the south, and in the particular instance to Spain. Legend has it that the 17 arches of the bridge correspond to the name Napoleon Bonaparte. The views from the top are fantastic and it's worth spending a bit of your free time here.

This is as good or better than even the bridges of Paris or any other city in France. Great picture opportunities from both sides.

We fell in love with the aptly named Pont de Pierre. Not only is it a beautiful stone bridge, it offers a wide variety of views on the Garonne river and its banks both during the day and at night. It is well worth crossing the bridge (on foot or by tram) to Bastide on the right bank to enjoy enchanting views on the city. We had the luck – so to speak – to be in Bordeaux when a large demonstration against the pension system reform blocked all trams on Place de Stalingrad (Bastide) and large numbers of people hurried across the bridge on foot. An unusual and strangely enthralling sight

We cycled over this bridge on our Bordeaux Bike Experience tour. It was worth doing because you get a good view of the waterfront buildings. Allegedly the 17 arches correspond to the number of letters in NAPOLEON BONAPARTE and his Imperial wreath is set between each. Sadly he died the year before its completion in 1822. There's a tunnel within the bridge for maintenance work and to allow soldiers to pass from one bank to the other undetected. Sadly not open to the public. Maybe Bordeaux Tourist Office are missing a trick?
