The Mercure hotel is conveniently located opposite the main train station of Bordeaux, Saint Jean. There is also a tram stop at this location. From the airport you can either take the shuttle bus for 8€ which goes direct from the airport to the train station or you can use the tram from the airport with 1 change at €1.70
The hotel has been recently renovated within the traditional historic building taking up a corner site. The ground floor is occupied by a bar bistro which always seemed popular and had good reviews. There was also a nice lounge sitting area which extended into the breakfast area. There is no reception in the traditional sense but instead a station which was always attentively attended to. The decoration was very modern with good attention to detail and plush furnishings.
As an Accor member I was graciously upgraded from a classic to a superior room. The room was a good size and had a separate seating area in a sunken part of the room accessed by a few steps. This allowed the benefit of the full length historic window to flood light into the room. The bed was extremely comfortable and was overlooked by a large screen TV. There was ample lighting options around the bed and usb ports in the side light. The room came with tea and coffee facilities and free water which could be refilled at the water station in the corridor. The bathroom was bright and modern with large walk in shower. The decor was modern and elegant and to a four star standard.
It should be noted that only the privilege rooms come with a fridge and coffee machine.
The WiFi had good open connectivity with speeds of up to 50mbs.
Overall this is a very pleasant hotel with easy access via tram to the rest of Bordeaux. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the room comfortable and good value for money.
