I think this hotel used to be called the Mercure Mériadeck and this would be a more appropriate name. It’s not really in the city centre but about 15 minutes walk.
Many others have mentioned the immediate surroundings and all of the descriptions fit. Dystopian dehumanised 1960s vision of a future that never was. And therein lies the problem. It’s just not a nice are to be in. Even at its best it would been cold and unwelcoming but the Meriadeck is now dirty and run down and it’s not a nice area to walk through at night. None of this however is the fault of the hotel. It’s situated where it is.
But I’m giving this hotel 4 stars for the following reasons:
The largely young hotel staff were friendly and helpful. They are well managed and it shows.
The rooms were recently renovated and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable, the AC highly effective and the room was silent. We slept well.
We got a very attractive deal for the hotel from Accor and each night bed and breakfast even in July was very reasonable. I price checked against other hotels and no deal came close.
So if you want easy access to the historic centre of Bordeaux and can look past how grim the Meriadeck is, this is a good value for money choice. If I got a similar deal, I’d stay here again.
