It was really interesting to see the development of tile making in the 19th century and learn about the processes. However, I felt that it was not really sufficiently explained which tile making process applied to which tile and there were a LOT of tiles on display, We had had enough before the end.

We visited on the Monday before we were due to come home. Unfortunately we did not allow enough time to look round the whole site, which was a shame as it was really interesting. The tile displays, particularly the ones associated with butchers shops reminded me of my childhood as I remember the shops with the beautiful tiles. Didn't realise how many uses there are for tiles and the variety and processes involved. I would like to go back and finish the visit and also visit the church opposite that has some of the tiles in it

The tile painting does not require paying entrance to the museum. Tiles are charged at a very reasonable rate, you are not rushed and staff are knowledgeable, helpful, encouraging and attentive! FULL MARKS!!!
However... take a picnic!!!
The cafe is either understaffed or staffed with inexperienced people as the struggled to manage with a moderate flow of customers. There are no concessions for a smaller portion for children, so it’s a case of paying for full adult portions for small children who have different dietary requirements and so cannot share. This seems odd for a site so focused on activities for children, especially during the school holidays. We were abruptly told there would be a 20minute wait- not bothered about the wait but the delivery of the information showed a lack of training.
Food arrived in less than 20mins but was not as ordered- one sandwich was requested without butter but came with so much butter that it was repulsive. Another sandwich came with tomatoes rather than the tomato chutney as advertised- not a major problem but again not what I ordered. There was no one around to approach after our food had arrived so we ate what we could & left as we had another activity to get to.
Would revisit to do tiles again and visit museum properly- but would not eat on site again.

Excellent. Really enjoyed this visit, some absolutely beautiful tiles that told a story. Spent much longer here than intended. We bought a multi ticket for various locations so not sure of prices etc.
