Flat was nice and the equipment is ok. We had a musty smell.

Landlord is verry frindly and the flat is in the center of Dublin and silent.

Thank Robert and delighted you found the apartment convenient. We cannot detect any musty smell and no other guests have reported it either. Liam

“Long weekend in Dublin”
Reviewed 5 June 2017 for a stay in June 2017

The apartment location was ideal for arrival from the airport, transport links around the city,security and lack of noise. It was warm and clean and had enough for a short break. I would agree with previous comments regarding little extras that would go a long way to improve the experience. For example:- A small sharp knife for cutting veg. A heated towel rail,a higher bed, given the tightness of space around it
Did quite a bit of the tourist trail and was impressed with the standard of exhibits, particularly at Kilmainham Jail.

Stayed here last week for the rugby pro 12 final and to have a break. Quite a few years since I visited Dublin city and life has not treated it kindly. Dock area looks stunning now with all the new buildings, the public transport is superb and will be better when all the work is done for the new tram lines. However,at the moment the city centre looks a mess with all the construction around the streets with the digging for the tracks.Also a lot of areas boarded up looking like they should have been demolished years ago.Come on city council get a grip!

“Decent value and tough-to-beat location”
Reviewed 7 May 2017 for a stay in April 2017

My wife and I spent a week in Ireland in late April/early May 2017 and used the Tranquility Apartment as our home base to tour Dublin and a few other places around this beautiful country.

What we liked the most about the apartment was the location. It is situated about one block from O'Connell Street making it walking distance to most attractions in Dublin including several pubs, restaurants, and grocery stores (consider a visit to The Celt down Talbot Street). It was also very convenient for us as we booked a few bus tours out of the city (e.g., Galway/Cliffs of Moher, Kilkenny/Glendalough, Belfast/Giant's Causeway - see Wild Rover Tours) and the nearby Gresham Hotel was the pickup site for all of them.

Some of the other positive features (as others have mentioned):
- it was quiet ... we heard no noise from people in the building or the neighbourhood;
- it seemed uber secure (if safety is a concern) ... there were five discrete 'checkpoints' for lack of a better term with keys needed to access the apartment, the hallway leading to the apartment, and the building itself in addition to keypad codes to access the outside gate and another code for use inside the building;
- the apartment was fairly spacious overall (at least for the two of us) with a good-sized bedroom and living area, both with windows allowing some natural light - the kitchen and bathroom were relatively smaller though adequate with artificial light;
- it was clean and cozy with modest furnishings;
- the bed was comfortable as were the sofa and chairs in the living room;
- it had a lot of the basic creature comforts with a decent shower, functional appliances and simple housewares in the kitchen, flat screen TV with a few channels, and a secure wifi connection that worked well;
- there were no snags when it came to booking (via Tripadvisor) and communicating with Liam (before our arrival) or one of his affiliates to get keys and a brief orientation to the apartment (after we had arrived).

There were very few negatives about the apartment and nothing that would prevent me from recommending it to others.

Probably the biggest disappointment for us, however, was the washer/dryer unit. We wanted the convenience of a washer and dryer while travelling abroad and liked that this apartment had one, but it proved to be a challenge for a few reasons. First, there were no instructions and the kind gentleman who provided the orientation (not Liam) confessed that he did not know how to operate it - we simply downloaded instructions from the web and this helped get things started. Second, the unit is tucked away in the corner of the kitchen close to the side of the fridge so access is somewhat hindered. The third and by far biggest issue was that the dryer did not seem to work properly ... even small loads that had been "drying" for several hours came out about as wet/damp as they were at the end of the wash cycle. We ended up hanging our clothes out around the apartment to dry and that took awhile in a humid place like Dublin.

The other negatives that we encountered were fairly minor. Unlike most bathrooms, there was no space apart from the edge of the sink and the floor of the shower to set down toiletries such as shampoo, toothbrush, razor, hairbrush, etc. We become fairly adept at juggling a few items and then repacking them. Finally, if you are travelling as a couple sharing a bed, expect that one of you will have to crawl/dive over the other or do a very careful shuffle to access the far side of the bed. The orientation of the bed and the bedroom dimensions are such that there is little space (maybe 9 inches) between the foot of the bed and the wall, and I'm not sure if there is much that can really be done about this, even if the bed were rotated. Be forewarned, particularly if you have large feet so as to save yourself from stubbing a toe.

For Liam, I'd recommend having a professional examine the washer/dryer unit, which may need to be fixed or replaced though, alternatively, you might provide a small portable drying rack for hanging clothes. It would probably be helpful for future renters to have a printed copy of instructions for using the washer/dryer. A couple of easy fixes for the bathroom would be to add a hook on the back of the bathroom door and a small shelf unit or vanity cupboard. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the really great review and comprehensive set of recommendations. We are phasing out washer-dryers in all of our apartments as, even the new models, do not dry the clothes properly - either baking them to a crisp or just leaving them hot and damp. The apartment is not big enough to permit the provision of separate appliances. We will continue to provide washing machines in the apartments. A 7 day laundry shop is just around the corner - 6 minutes walk from the apartment. The big industrial drying machines there cost Euro 3 per large load and dry the clothes perfectly in about 10 minutes. I think most people will be happy with this arrangement.

“Good Location, No Frills”
Reviewed 3 April 2017 for a stay in March 2017

Pros:
Great location north of the river
Near airport bus, grocery, and shopping
Very secure and very quiet location

Cons:
No shelf in shower for bottles/soap
No bathroom garbage bin (women have to carry sanitary items into kitchen for garbage)
Instructions for both the oven and the washer would be great. The labels on the oven are worn off so we had some confusion turning it on.
Basics like napkins, salt and pepper in the kitchen would be nice.

Our host (not Liam) was late to meet us. I will grant that our plane was very late, which I had communicated, but I had called Liam twice and he insisted our host was already waiting for us at the Gresham. She didn't arrive until half an hour after our conversation.

Overall, we had a fine stay here. The cons I listed were not deal-breakers, but minor things that, if improved, could make for a nice stay.
