As part of our 50th wedding anniversary celebrations, we decided to revisit a number of the places (and where possible the hotels) where we stayed in March 1967 on our honeymoon.
My wife and I endeavored to find a number of the hotels in which we had stayed so that we could revisit. Sadly, most of them no longer existed, though we were fortunate to be able to book a meal in the Alexandra Hotel in Fort William where we had stayed.
She asked the manager if the hotel kept records that went back to our original stay, but as one might anticipate, such records (being paper) were disposed of during one of the many changes of ownership. She had hoped to be able to obtain a copy of the register as a keepsake.
However, imagine our amazement when we arrived for our meal, to find the table resplendent with decorations, a bottle of sparkling wine and a Golden Wedding helium balloon.
Above and beyond this was the service and food. The staff from those on reception, through the waiting staff (Alina and her colleague) and the bar staff, to the manager (Mr Brian Dunn) who both welcomed us and wished us well, were very helpful and kind. Nothing was too much trouble!
We would have no doubt about recommending the hotel for its food.More
