“Fabulous cottage, fabulous location”
Reviewed 21 November 2014 for a stay in November 2014

We stayed in the Bothy Cottage for 3 nights and loved it, high standard, really enjoyed it. Spotless and the bed was so comfortable, peaceful and relaxing. Very welcoming and could have stayed longer. Cats were great, and lots of logs for the stove - even though the cottage was warm anyway, we loved having the open fire on ! Would highly recommend staying here.

“the barn - fantastic cottage”

Five of us recently stayed in 'The Barn', one of the Balblair Cottages. there are three cottages, the byre being one of the others. For a large family group they are ideal as, added to this one sleeping 6, one of the cottages sleeps 4, and the other 2. The cottages are located near Croy in the Scottish Highlands, about 10 miles from Inverness, 6 miles from Nairn. This particular cottage has 3 bedrooms, all with double or twin beds, and has more than enough space for 6 people. It is the nicest, and most well equipped self catering accommodation we have rented in the UK. Although we didn't have any pets with us, they are welcome. We normally use this type of accommodation and have had good, average and terrible rentals. This one I can say with certainty is excellent. It is spotlessly clean, well maintained and furnished well above average for a holiday rental. There was nothing we might have wanted that they didn't have. The kitchen especially is exceptionally well equipped. The beds are super comfortable and the log burner (logs included) in the living area was very welcome on the couple of cold evenings we had. There are two bathrooms, one upstairs and one down, one has a good sized shower cubicle and the other, joy of joys, a bath. After a full day out walking or sightseeing a relaxing soak in a hot bath is something that is often not available as many holiday rentals only have showers. The cottage has a small outside paved area with seating and a table, where there is a multitude of birds to watch and listen to. Its location is very quiet and peaceful with lovely views all around, but is close enough to both Inverness and Nairn for the usual supermarkets and other shopping. The Inverness supermarkets will deliver from an internet order which is what we did. It was very convenient not to have to try to either transport large amounts of food, or have to shop after a long drive. Wi-Fi is available and the signal must have been good considering there was, at any one time 5 devices being connected. It was a good enough signal to watch TV online. Within 30 to 45 minutes drive are some beautiful beaches along the Moray Firth and the west coast is 1-2 hours away depending on where you choose to go. Just a few miles away is the Culloden battlefield site, well worth a visit. There are various rail journeys from Inverness, one especially worth while is the historic Kyle of Lochalsh line with wonderful stunning views over Loch Carron when approaching the Isle of Skye. The cottage is bookable online, and with the excellent communication from the owners, and the facility to pay online using a credit card, the whole experience was completely stress free. They put in those little extras that make the stay a bit more special, such as the basket containing the most delicious, locally made biscuits and jam. The shortbread especially is the nicest we have ever tasted and wish we could get them locally. Barbara, who we dealt with over e-mail, came over just after we arrived to welcome us, show us how the log burner and heating system worked, and to check that we had everything we needed and to answer any queries. We had a wonderful week, and can 100% recommend this accommodation. I am sure that we will be back.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your holiday home at Balblair Cottages. It's great to hear that you thought the beds were super comfortable, the area peaceful and that it was one of the nicest holiday cottages that you've stayed in in the UK! It's also good to know that you liked the little extras in the cottage. We hope to see you again in the future. Kind regards, Barbara.

“A perfect base to explore this stunning part of Scotland”
Reviewed 3 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Lovely and clean, everything you need and bigger than it looks in the photographs. Our kids loved having their 'den' in the gallery bedroom. The cottages are easy to find but peaceful and the view is beautiful. There are woods just down the lane for dog walking.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed 21 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

This was our first visit to Scotland and we struck gold with the Byre at Balblair Cottages. Barbara welcomed us when we arrived and made sure that we had everything we needed for the duration of our stay. The Byre is absolutely beautifully equipped and decorated to an incredible standard. The location is idyllic, with wonderful views across the Moray Firth. It is a 10 minute drive towards Aberdeen to a retail park that has a large 24 hour Tesco along with many other well-known high street retailers. Access to Aberdeen, Nairn, Loch Ness, etc., is very easy and well signposted.
