This apartment is located quite centrally, just 5 min. or so walk from Queen Street station and a bit more from Glasgow Central. There is shopping in abundance, including Sainsburys, Marks & Spencer in Argyle St. and Tesco in the St. Enoch Mall. It is more or less equidistant from St. Enoch and Buchanan tube stops, St. Enoch being perhaps a bit closer. Bus service is also nearby, including the #500 Airport Express just 4-5 min. walk away in St. George Square. However, the central location also has its downside, as the neighborhood is quite noisy. Even late at night, there is noise from delivery trucks, rubbish pickup, and revelers returning from pubs. The noise becomes more noticeable in warm weather, because the only means of ventilation is to open the windows (there is a heating system but no air-conditioning). Also, the afternoon sun comes in the windows; on sunny and warm days the apartment becomes unbearably hot and bright. We kept the shades pulled even during the day just to keep the heat down. Fortunately, the landlord provides two electric fans, which helped. The apartment has modern furnishings, but is rather cluttered; extra bedding and other items are squirreled away here and there. A small table and folding chairs in the bedroom get in the way of the chest of drawers — quite unnecessary since the dining table is just a few steps away. The kitchen has very nice modern appliances and many grocery items such as coffee, tea, oil, spices, etc. are supplied — but again, so much crockery and cutlery are supplied that it is quite cluttered. The double bed was not very firm, nor were the pillows, and the linen smelled a bit musty to me. Positives: convenient location; the landlord is very accommodating and good at communicating, and returned the damage deposit promptly. Negatives: clutter, stuffiness on warm days, noise (and cigarette smoke) from the street below. Also there is a flight of stairs to negotiate without a lift; not much but for someone with mobility problems or heavy luggage it could be daunting. The apartment is certainly adequate and secure accommodation, but because of the noise and heat I would be reluctant to return.
Great location. Roomy apartment. Only wee negative is that the bedroom cupboard was filled with extra bedding etc, making it difficult to use.
We enjoyed our stay very much. The layout of the flat is good for two couples to share. Although in the middle of Merchant City, the street is quiet at night.
The flat is ideally located, well within walking distance of George Square, the main commercial avenues of Merchant City, the Clyde and even the Glasgow Greens. It is well designed and equipped with care (the owners even left a laptop for the guests). The street can be a little noisy, but if you're looking for quiet, Glasgow is probably not the place for you. And the bed is so comfortable that you're guaranteed to sleep really well. Would absolutely recommend.
The apartament has a great location, near George square and the city centre. Around, you can find every kind of shops and resturant. The owner is very kind, he provides us everything we need. The apartament was clean and well decorated. Despite the central position, and the restaurants under the flat, there wasn't noise. We really enjoyed our accommodation!
