Owner description: This 35-meter-high rotating boat lift, the world’s first, connects the Forth & Clyde and Union canals.

We visited the wheel on a wet day in April. Booked the 10am boat trip online. Still an additional £3 charge for parking. Boarded the boat which left on time. Moved into the wheel itself and got lifted up to the top canal level. Short trip to another canal basin through a short tunnel and turned around and came back. About 40 mins in total. Commentary on the way and lots of chances to take photos (best done by opening the windows). Afterwards we visited the shop (lots of decent things on sale) and then watched the 11am boat be lifted up by the wheel. Our children loved the whole experience.

This is a lovely day out for a family or on your own . The Falkirk wheel is a great piece of engineering and very interesting . You can go on a short trip on the wheel and up onto the Union Canal . There is also a very good visitor centre with a lovely restaurant , a water park for kids and a scientific play park for kids and adults alike . all in all a lovely day out and i would recommend it to everyone

Worth a visit as so unique and interesting. Didn't think worth the £13.50 to take the boat trip through the wheel as just as good to get photos of the wheel in action. Disappointing however that there is no information or exhibit, only guide books on sale for £5. Fortunately we found a helpful chap at the desk who gave us a quick overview and explanation.
Note there is a £3 parking charge.

Great attraction and worth a visit. We visited last year but never did the boat trip.
Great views from the top and seems a bit odd when returning as you do quite literally come to the end of the canal!!
The onboard staff were very good and humerus.
