Owner description: Hidden beneath the Royal Mile lies Edinburgh’s deepest secret: a warren of hidden ‘closes’ where real people lived, worked and died. For centuries they have lain forgotten and abandoned…until now. Visit Edinburgh's most famous Close, which makes Edinburgh's Hidden History unmissable.

Mark was incredible. He spoke slowly so everybody could understand him and he provided us with more information when someone was interested in a certain topic.
The tour itself is also really interesting. It's intriguing that you are able to see the actual rooms people used to inhabit.
The only downsize is that the tour is quite short so you don't have enough time to really explore the place (sometimes you only pass through). Otherwise highly recommend it!

Very nice and historic tour, must see, rather impressive. Tour takes you through the Close in about an hour. Shout-out to Guide Lloyd ;)

The tour was fun and interesting. The guide (can't remember his name, it might have been James) was funny and well rehearsed.

I felt that a group of 19 people was a bit large; smaller groups would be better.

There were seats in some of the rooms where we spent a bit more time, but not all, and at times I thought there should be seats.

I felt like I had been ripped off as there’s nothing here you can’t see on Game of Thrones, and it’s probably as authentic. If you like Medieval closes then Edinburgh has dozens of free ones in the Old Town, some close to this place, with plaques describing the history etc.

Thank you for leaving us a review, however we're confused by your comments regarding Game of Thrones - perhaps this feedback is meant for another attraction? Our one hour tour tells the story of 400 years of Edinburgh history, as such it isn't anything to do with Game of Thrones (although we do enjoy the TV programme).
Just to reassure you, our site is authentic Edinburgh which has been uniquely preserved beneath the buildings above, and the content on our tour has been thoroughly researched and is based on documented and archaeological evidence.
We do hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Edinburgh.

I am genuinely happy to have stepped into this century's old close as it is very well preserved. And our guide, Tom (if I'm not mistaken) mastered his character of a plague doctor. He transported us into the past and was really convincing.
But... the no photo policy to force us buying one in the gift shop for a tour that costs already 15 pounds was not really pleasing.
Yet, this did not prevent me from enjoying my time in this unique location!
