An expensive place to shop, but nothing utterly outrageous. Fun to meander down the road but you can buy just about everything from Amazon much cheaper

The Royal Mile is worth a visit. You can walk up to the castle at the top. The camera obscura is well worth a visit too. There are plenty of souvenir shops selling cashmere, whiskey and shortbread. The ice cream van in the castle grounds sells the most delicious ice cream! There is also a number of pubs/restaurants as well.

Can't go to Edinburgh without seeing it but shops all sold the same things for the same high prices. Not really worth much time there for me.

Be prepared for crowds but while shopping look off to the side streets and churches to gain a further appreciation for Scottish history. If you do that you will see many jewels to discover.
