Dragon Door and the best Guinness

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 19 Jan 2025via mobile
Stopped for lunch after a recommendation from a National Trust guide at the Giants Causeway. The entrance is a fabulous Dragon door carved from wood from one of the dark hedges trees. Friendly service, best Guinness and yummy food. Worth a visit.

Stayed in this lovely place last night, the staff were very friendly and approachable. The accommodation was very clean and the rooms are very spacious and the breakfast was amazing. Would recommend. Will definitely be back.

    Thanks for a relaxing evening

Came here for a lunch stop on a day trip. Picnic tables outside were all soaking wet- totally inadequate cover even for the tables that were covered. The lunch area inside was small and staff were just yelling "you can't sit there" etc. Not the greatest pub.

I deeply regret not reading the reviews more thoroughly before booking a room here—it completely ruined my trip to Northern Ireland.

For anyone considering a stay: avoid Room 10 at all costs!

We booked what was described as a "deluxe double room," but the reality was far from deluxe. The room was incredibly small and cramped—you could almost roll straight from the bed into the bathroom door. While the size alone might not have been a deal-breaker (we’re both slim and agile), the real issue was the location. The room was directly above the kitchen extractor fan, which produced a loud, booming noise from 6:30 am to 9:30 pm. This made it impossible to relax in the room or sleep in during the morning.

When we raised our concerns at reception (managed by the bar staff), the response was dismissive. The girl we spoke to seemed completely unconcerned and told us there were no alternative rooms available. For a room costing £100 per night, this lack of consideration was shocking. I can't believe they continue to offer these rooms, knowing the problems they come with!

The rest of our stay wasn’t much better. Most of the staff we encountered were rude, with the exception of a dark-haired lady who served us dinner and was pleasant.

I wish I had booked through a platform like Booking.com so I could escalate this issue properly. Save yourself the hassle and book elsewhere!

Spent a lovely 3 day break here. Been several times before, never disappointed. Room and breakfast were fantastic. Very quiet nights of sleep.
Staff vert friendly, left an earbud in the room, realised when we got home. Phoned and Staff found the earbud and promptly posted it straight to us!
Really went above and beyond for service.

Belated callout for a highly enjoyable 2 night stay on a Game of Thrones road trip. Just accept that this is ultimately a pub with relatively basic accommodation and you won't be disappointed. Excellent breakfasts and evening meals both nights, likewise local beers and Guinness. Only a short drive away from Ballintoy harbour where you don't have to be a GOT aficionado to appreciate the sights and sounds.
