Extremely disappointing!

Overall very disappointing…
When we arrived… the receptionist lifted her head , we thought to welcome us, unfortunately she just looked back to her desk not uttering a single word!
We wanted a pre dinner drink which appeared to be a problem… wanting us to go to our table even tho we arrived 25 min early.. Had to wait 20 min in the bar area to get two G & T at before taking our table paid over £9 for each of them! Now that is a rip off!
Menu could have been little more varied..the prices could certainly not have been any more expensive… whilst the food was good, presentation and portion excellent it was considered a total rip off!
It’s gives the impression that it’s just a food factory. No ambience or atmosphere in the place at all - staff could do with more training they should let the plate sit for more than 10 sec after you finish ! Mine was whisked away 10 sec after finishing- gave the impression could not wait to get you out the door! Certainly would nit be recommending it nor rushing back

Room Tip: I’d avoid it…!

Our room had poor natural light and the dark colour scheme made it feel drab. The temperature was low when we arrived but became much too hot later in the night. I couldn't figger out the thermostat and the window catch seemed to be jammed. Could do better. And a rock hammer was making a din when we arrived.
Now the good bit. The dining room and bar are well appointed and have magnificent views. The dark colour scheme works here with all the natural light available. We only had breakfast and it was first class. Looking forward to visiting for dinner some time . The other good point was the quality of the staff -pleasant and helpful.

Room tip: Make sure that the room temperature can be adjusted.

Located high above Ballycastle with stunning views this is s very relaxing hotel in which to chill out. Good parking.Receptions staff were lovely.
Set around a lovely courtyard, it has a rather clean cut Scandi feel to the decor. Lovely dining room/bar/ relaxing room. Food and service was very good. The spa was excellent and the staff were very professional and good at delivering facials. Would definitely return.

I love coming here especially in the autumn/winter time as its so cosy!
I had my first ever spa treatment, a relaxing facial, with their lovely therapist Julie who was friendly and chatty putting me at ease. Afterwards my friends said I looked so well rested and my skin was glowing. My only complaint- it went by too quickly!
We ate in The Lookout after this, again a first for me, and it was absolutely delicious! The nicest pizza ive ever had and the desserts are to die for! As always the staff were all welcoming and very friendly.

Be aware
There is major construction going on at the hotel with significant noise and disruption.
I received an email 1 week ago that stated "there may be some construction noise"
The reality was a large digger and crater directly outside the room. Please see picture. It started at 8am and was so loud you could feel the vibration in the floor.
While I appreciate the work is necessary and beneficial to the hotel,I do not believe they were honest and open about the level of disruption. It is also not at all reflected in the price.

On a positive note, dinner and breakfast were great with lovely service.

I am just back from an overnight stay at The Salthouse Hotel Ballycastle.

First of all may I compliment the Salthouse on receiving a wonderful spa treatment and fabulous food.

I do however want to raise several disappointing complaints that I have re the stay.

The construction noise levels at 8AM directly outside our room this morning where horrendous. This construction continues directly to and around the Thermal village. Your email sent days before our stay warning us of possible disruption states the temporary location of the hot tubs provides "a stunning location with even better views". Personally speaking, 8 foot metal barrier fences don't do much to please the eye.

Whilst I fully appreciate this construction is necessary for your long term benefit, when booking, there was no mention of any construction taking place over the duration of our stay.

Our booking was made several months ago, and I feel, at the very least, they should have the decency to inform guests when booking, the current state of affairs at the hotel.

I was also disappointed to note, that despite booking a "set package deal", I was wrongly invoiced to the extent of an additional £85. As reception explained "We have just changed over computer systems, we do apologise for the error". I understand errors occur, but please double check invoices before sending them several hours before we actually check out.

I did voice all of these concerns to reception at the hotel, who laughed it off and explained "You aren't the firsts guests to mention the noise.

Simply not good enough, "The Salthouse Ballycastle". You can do much better!
