“A home far from home - a lovely place to stay”

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Railway Cottage. From the first minute, we felt at home in this cosy little cottage. It was perfectly clean, the kitchen well equipped, we found everything we needed there. The small garden we had for ourselves was a nice place to rest, and as we were lucky with the weather, we used it regularly. Rob and Jo were lovely hosts, very kind and always available for our questions or requests. When we found that the DVD player wasn't working, Rob bought and installed a new one the next day - not that we had the time to make much use of it :-). We enjoyed the bottle of wine and the Welsh Cakes, which were just as delicious as described by our predecessors. Thank you very much, Rob, for this kind gesture of welcome!

The cottage proved to be a very comfortable starting place to explore Cardiff and the surroundings. We used the train to get into Cardiff several times, and went to see some other places by car. The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular was indeed spectacular, and we also loved the Doctor Who Experience and the John Barrowman concert which happened to take place during our stay. Not to forget the Millenium Centre, which is an amazing building, the Roald Dahl Plaza and Cardiff Bay. Castell Coch, the Penderyn distillery and the Brecon Beacons were also well worth the visit. The Penderyn Whisky is something very special. If you enjoy a good drop, you shouldn't miss it! Very different from the Scottish or Irish Whisky we knew, and so tasty we brought two or three bottles back which now will have to last for a whole year, alas :-).

The recommendations to visit Fagins and the Spice Connoisseur (just a few walking minutes) were well appreciated, too. We had some good meals there, and were overwhelmed by the friendlyness of all the people we met. Wales has a lot to offer, and there are still so many things to see that we are already planning to come back next year - and we are sure that our place to stay will be the Railway Cottage again.

All in all - a wonderful holiday, we loved it! Thanks again, Rob and Jo and everyone we met there. We'll be back :-)!

“Friendly host, pleasant lodgings and 2 pubs in easy walking distance!”
Reviewed 25 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

What more could one ask? From the initial pleasant greeting on arrival to the welsh cakes and wine waiting in the comfortable and well equipped cottage and further to the ongoing helpfulness of the hosts this accommodation is one of the most pleasant places that we have stayed.
Its locations excellent with easy access to the railway station and well marked roads to facilitate the process of driving in an unfamiliar environment.
We dined at both of the nearby pubs where we found the service friendly and the basic pub style food satisfying.
the cottage itself is well appointed and comfortable . despite being close to the railway line and a reasonably busy road the atmosphere is peaceful and nose levels are low .
We highly recommend Railway cottage.

Great Little cottage run by very helpful family. Cottage is very clean and well kept. Kitchen has everything you need. Off road, gated parking. We cycled into Cardiff along the bike trail, lovely route along side the river Taff. Great holiday rental

“Lovely gem hidden next to the main road”
Reviewed 22 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Really great little cottage attached to the owners house. Fantastically located for Cardiff yet not anywhere near the hussle bussle that comes with it.
Don't worry at all about being next the railway line, it isn't a problem or disturbing in anyway and I'm a light sleeper!
Very fairly priced and off-street parking is such a benefit!
