When we booked this hotel, we expected a basic room in the main hotel as we booked 'The Royal Oak Hotel' which as you would expect.. a basic room in that hotel. Upon arrival we went to the reception desk at the main hotel, which the receptionist was very happy to help and very friendly. Then we were told directions on heading to our room out of the hotel and in the adjacent building in the stables lodges.. confused! We just thought oh okay, must be another entrance to the hotel or something.. nope. We found our room down a long dingy hallway right at the end... No mention on the invoice of staying in the lodges!! Disappointed! The room itself did not have a very nice feel to it. The room was very outdated, miss matched items of furniture around the room, silver chrome, gold plated chrome and 70's style furniture with a modern bathroom (which was the best part of the room) really did not do this any justice. The room was just very dark, dingy and was not worth the money. The kettle was broken, we had to hold the button down so the kettle could boil. The telly was a small one (not bothered) but was right across the other side of the room so when you were in bed could not see the thing.. radio also did not work. The rule to have no wine in the rooms is ridiculous, as the limited amount of pubs in Betws Y Coed shut relatively early on a Friday night.. as two grown up adults.. we brought our own bottle despite and not one drop spilt. The Stables pub was a good atmosphere, great beer and the food superb! Its just a shame the rooms aren't up to date as for the price you pay (without breakfast) is rather pricey for what you get. We went for a walk to the train station not 5 minutes away where you can cross over to the café on an old train which opens at 10am and does a good breakfast for cheap as the hotel advertised breakfast for £9 a head.. bit steep with the price of the room on top! Will not be returning I'm afraid although will return to the Stables pub for grub again sometime. I would recommend on finding a nice B&B if planning on staying in or around Betws Y Coed.

Fantastic place to watch live sport, two big crystal clear tvs with great reception. Will be making regular appearances now!

Food is home made and very good value- place is clearly set up to take a lot of money in the summer!

The Royal Oak is ideally situated and has plenty of free car parking so no worries there. The highlight for us was the meal in the restaurant, it was superb and very reasonably priced. The rooms are ok, a little dated but still nice and overall not too bad. Service in the main bar area was a slow when they were busy and no cheaper than the restaurant so it's a no brainer, book yourselves in the restaurant. Breakfast was very nice. Free wifi.
