“Idyllic Little Haven in a Quiet Corner of Llangollen”
Reviewed 18 May 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Brilliant location within walking distance of the shops, pubs and restaurants in the town centre, Godre Berwyn is an adorable cottage perfect for a quiet weekend get away! It is situated half way up a hill and the front garden has views over the town. There are plenty of beautiful walks just minutes away from the house, so it's a great base from which to explore the hills and countryside around. The interior is cosy, clean and beautifully decorated - feels like a home away from home! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Godre Berwyn to anyone looking for a break in North Wales.

“Great cottage in fantastic location”

As soon as I saw Godre Berwyn I knew I was going to love it.

Tucked onto the hillside a stone’s throw from the bustling centre of Llangollen, it is the picture of a quintessential Welsh cottage. Standing at the gate looking down the path towards the front door, you imagine very little has changed in the centuries since the cottage was built.

But once inside, every modern comfort is catered for – albeit in a way which does not lose any of the character of the cottage matured over hundreds of years.

I was staying for three night with my father, who has mobility issues, and the downstairs en suite double bedroom situated right next to the front door was perfect for his needs.

Upstairs there is another double bedroom, two good sized singles and a bathroom. And it is upstairs where the character of the cottage is most evident, where there are exposed wooden beams and charmingly uneven floors.

The kitchen was well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay and, despite the fact we were staying in the spring, I could imagine coming back in the depths of winter and curling up with a book next to the wood burning stove in the living room.

Another highlight is the small courtyard sitting area behind the house. Its whitewashed walls and Moroccan-style accessories transport you to a North African hideaway – perfect for a summer evening sip.

And there is more outside dining at the front, with another table to seat four – or six at a push – tucked away in a front garden nook.

We walked into town in less than five minutes so a pint on the terrace of the picturesque riverside Corn Mill pub – as well as all of Llangollen’s other eateries, watering holes, walks and attractions - are within easy reach.

The car parking space right at the house was a welcome addition, especially as I had heard Llangollen was a town where town centre parking spaces are at a premium.

All in all – a great place to stay which I would recommend to anyone.

Godre Berwyn is a lovely period cottage a short stroll to the centre of Llangollen, on arrival we were met by the owner Chris who was very helpful, the cottage was beautifully presented, well equipped and comfortably furnished. I would have no hesitation in recommending other travellers to stay and we look forward to a return visit.

“A sweet, beautifully decorated cottage, ideal location.”
Reviewed 17 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We stayed at Godre Berwyn during May half term, with our two young children and one set of grandparents. We were warmly welcomed by Chris and Graham, who had thoughtfully left supplies including bread, fruit, milk, chocolate cake, juice and wine. The house was tastefully decorated, the beds were comfortable and high quality bedding and towels were supplied. The cottage is very well equipped, with everything you could need for a self-catering holiday. There is a lovely outdoor area with table and chairs; there is also private parking for one car right outside the cottage. A two minute walk takes you into the beautiful town of Llagollen with some great restaurants, bars and shops. We also explored further afield, including the Poncysyllte Viaduct (we would recommend Jones the Boat), Bala, Chester Zoo and the Victorian Village in Ironbridge. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage to family and friends. Thank you Chris and Graham for making our stay so enjoyable, we hope to return in the not so distant future.

Liked best: We all adored the cottage, the children loved their bedrooms.
Liked least: A small inconvenience with the wifi and phone signal, but the owners informed us of signal, hotspots just a short walk away. It was quite nice to get away from it all for a few days!
