A really interesting place to visit in Newcastle. We enjoyed wandering around the castle & particularly liked being able to get out on the top of the & take in the views! Worth a visit if you are in the city.

This is such a brilliant place yet so few people now about it. The exhibitions are great and the staff are knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. There is also a great view over the city that just cannot be beat anywhere. This is a must visit when you come to Newcastle.

This is another place I really wanted to visit, and bit the bullet. I honestly loved my experience here. My sister and I went with her camera as she is doing her A -Levels, and Heritage/buildings is part of the topic she picked. We were not disappointed. The views alone once we got to the top of the castle were amazing! Honestly, do this even just for the view you’ll get. You can see all the way across Newcastle! You can have so much fun looking in & around the castle crevices, and there are so many, every stair, every corner leads to something new and amazing! This was definitely something I had all the fun in the world doing, and would do it again in a heartbeat. Also shoutout to George! Clearly he has the best job!

Although it was closed by the time we arrived, the display boards are very good, informative and interesting. The prison pit made gruesome reading. It gave a good account of the foundation and history of Newcastle.

This place could do with better signage explaining the rather odd access mechanism and the unavailability of tickets in the castle itself.

Apart from that, it's a wonderful exhibit. The main castle building is a magnificent example of the building craftmanship involved, and exploring all the passages/steps within the castle walls is fascinating. And to top it off (pun intended) the views from the top are well worth the upwards-ever-upwards trudge.

As the site has already adopted the addition of wooden walkways thereby endorsing the acceptability of the same, why not splash out and build one from the top of the Gatehouse, crossing over the railway line to the castle itself - just a thought ! But probably a bit too avant garde for unimaginative (and stingy) Newcastle Council.
