I grew up in Woodbridge and my parents still live there.

My mother had purchased a voucher for seckford hall for a dinner and breakfast stay
Due to lack of availability in rooms (there was a wedding) I upgraded this to a stay in the courtyard cottage (no.35) and we stayed there while my baby was having an evening with the grandparents

Background

Seckford hall growing up was always a bit of a destination place to go for special occasions. This has continued for my parents who had their wedding reception there and occasionally choose to have birthday meals there,

The last time I went there was about 4 years ago for my mothers birthday . The dining then was white tables, silver service, very stiff and extremely unfashionable. I dont think you could have found a set up like that anywhere in London if you had been looking. So I was interested to see it after the refurbishment

This time the restaurant has been revamped to look much more like a bistro style. The front of house gentleman had his act together and seated us, led us through the lamb special in an informative and quick style

The food was very good for the prices (based on living in London). Only slight criticism was the waiting staff were not as good as the front of house manager and had to come back to our table a couple of times for clarification. i,e "how do you want your steak cooked" TBF the waiter was a kid and probably doing it in the evenings after school.
Its not a big deal anyway my wife and thought it was endearing but I know some Food nazis get exercise about stuff like that when they shouldn't

The room was great. Very clean and bed had a decent topper on it so was comfortable only criticism here and its a big bigger is (1) no soap in the upstairs toilet
(2) there was a tea towel left over from cleaning the coffee cups see photo. This should be set aside against the room being impeccably clean and I imagine the cleaner just missed it on the final sweep on leaving the room - still it shouldn't really happen

Same with soap we should have it by a toilet. I feel a bit bad commenting like this because the room itself was very very clean - no dust anywhere and I was looking!

The hotel itself is set in beautiful grounds and the staff were all excellent and friendly and recommended drinks when asked ect

The final point though - the breakfast in the morning was sensational. its near on impossible to do anything new with a cooked breakfast. This is the first time I have ever had baked beans which were incredible as was the hashbrown - I know sounds strange to say it but the breakfast was great and quality in product and execution much better than the ordinary

Anyway despite the tea towel which was gross and no soap im still giving this 5 stars as I think from the overall quality of the place these were oversights

I am in my room and it is 0900. Check out is 1100 yet housekeeping have just knocked on my door. The lady was pleasant enough but I absolutely object to this practice and believe the management should adopt what most good hotels do and wait for their guests to vacate the room before sending in housekeeping. My stay has been a mixed bag. The building is really wonderful and with its great age it is expected that there will be a few creaks and groans but the room was poorly provisioned and actually the carpet is filthy. There are not enough plug sockets, the tv is poor quality and keeps losing signal. The receptionist last night was stern and unsmiling and I didn’t feel special ( which I would expect to when spending this much on a room). The food is ok but nothing special and the vegetables served separately in metal dishes were cold. Breakfast was again ok and the breakfast staff were very nice and friendly. I would not consider coming back I’m afraid until they sort out their standards.

We had a lovely break at this beautiful Hall. The brickwork looked stunning coated in red vine leaves. There was a great feeling of history within every room and tranquillity. The grounds were wonderful with even a small lake and little bridge.

Room tip: We booked a classic double but were given the joy to be upgraded to the Dairy Cottage presumably as it was quiet but a pleasure thank you!

Got a good rate as last minute booking in this hotel. Had the same room we stayed in three years ago. It looked the same just a bit frayed (eg bathroom ceiling needs a lick of paint) - time for a refresh I think. Some public areas had been smartened up so perhaps its on its way.
Restaurant was full and rightly so, the food I thought was outstanding and a good price. Partridge starter (special) was indeed special! Tandoori monkfish was just right for a delicate flavoured fish.
Unfortunately it was unexpectedly full as there really weren't enough waiters on duty (they were expecting 25 customers and 55 turned up!). Service suffered as a result which is a shame.
Definitely be back when next in Woodbridge in the new year.

This break was a breath of fresh air. On arrival the setting of the Hotel is beautiful. (Evan though it was raining). This 15 century house exactly was as expected, full of history and ancient glamour. my wife and I stayed in a deluxe suite in the court yard. which was pretty impressive I must say. The Bed was very comfortable, and every morning after breakfast the room was cleaned by the staff,
Food and Drink:
The breakfast was as normal as you can get with little added items. The Evening meal was quite impressive choice of starter / main / puddings. which we found was very well presented and tasty. drinks at the bar of course are hotel prices, but to be expected.
Staff:
Simply wonderful and very friendly / Helpful.
There is also a Spa with a Pool (if your staying its free) the spa offers a number of services, which I was told were very relaxing.
All said we had a great time, and if I'm asked would I go back the answer is yes i would.
