When we arrived at the lodge we were welcomed with a lovely hamper and a beautiful bunch of flowers.
All the rooms were set up and very tidy.
We used the outdoor space a lot during our weekend and it was a lovely space for our large group.
We cooked for one evening there was plenty of pots, pans, cutlery and other kitchenware, our only grumble was that it seemed last guest might not have been to great with the washing up but the dish washer helped us get everything clean in time for our meal. The dinning room was a perfect area for us to share all meal times and even enough room for a little dance in the evening.
Beautiful surroundings and a lush house!
Would defiantly come back during the hot weather to take advantage of the outside space for family bbqs and outdoor activities.
Best weekend !!!

“Great weekend reunion”
Reviewed 26 November 2014 for a stay in November 2014

I booked this lovely house for a reunion with university friends. The owners were easily contactable throughout the booking process and gave clear instructions on arrival.
The house itself is beautiful, full of rural character. It was very spacious for 13. The aga in the kitchen was amazing, large dinner table for the evening. Sky sports, large TV in living room. wifi available, plenty of parking outside. 5 mins drive into bury st Edmunds.
Only minor issue was the limited toilets/showers. But this didn't stop us all enjoying our stay!
Would definitely recommend this house to anyone.

“This was a wonderful place to stay and the lodge made it extra special. Thank you”
Reviewed 30 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

The stay in Nowton Lodge Farm was exceptional, the only criticism I have it that there were a number of spider webs which some of the group did not like, apart from this everything else was fantastic. I suppose we could have done with en-suite facilities to each room especially bedroom 4, but as the lodge is some 500 years old maybe this is not possible but perhaps something to consider in the future.

We would certainly recommend this to our friends and definately stay there again.

Management Response
5 Sep 2014
Thanks for your review Sue, really glad you all had a lovely time :) I will get onto the cleaners about cobwebs, there should never be any there as they do a thorough clean on the day of your arrival, sorry about that as they must have missed some! Unfortunately as it is Grade II listed and a traditional layout English Heritage will not allow en-suites in as it then stops being a 500 year old traditional Suffolk farmhouse layout!

“Relaxing and comfortable stay with family”
Reviewed 14 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We arrived at Nowton Lodge for a three night stay with a total of 14 family members all coming from the US. What a lovely place it was, and you know it is really hard to please 14 people!

The house was built in the 1500's, which is amazing in my opinion that it is well kept. The rooms are comfortable and nicely furnished and the pictures here are true to the experience.
The AGA in the kitchen stays on all the time, so don't be surprised or anxious when you feel a hot oven in the kitchen! There is one shower and three separate bathrooms, which can be a trick, but it all worked out fine. The layout is comfortable, with plenty of space to be together or get away. We took a lovely walk past a house with lots of farm animals that led to a road with a lovely church. It was great fun seeing the horses every day as well. Our only house issue was with a toilet that got stuck, and we worked around that til it could be fixed.

The ride into Bury was easy to see the beautiful Abbey ruins, and it's about 1/2 hour to Long Melford to see Kentwell Hall. Lavenham was just as charming as it could be, so I highly recommend it for shopping and a meal at the Swan hotel! If I was going again, I would get reservations at the Theater Royal for a show, and hop into the country's smallest pub, the Nutshell. We missed both due to other commitments. There is plenty to do in the area to occupy a full week happily, and Nowton Lodge was a charming place to do it.

“Idyllic retreat to catch up and recharge your batteries”

We had a wonderful holiday, the little personal touches around the house and the welcome pack made all the difference. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome.
The house itself is gorgeous, with lovely large rooms (plenty of space for everyone) and a cosy sitting room for the end of the day. The cook in our group loved the kitchen and this became the focal meeting point for us all.
We were fortunate to experience lovely weather and were able to take full advantage of the garden and enjoy the gorgeous views. We especially enjoyed the view from the kitchen window, seeing the horses pop their heads out of the stables was sweet.
With Bury St Edmunds town centre so close, popping into town for a visit was easy and we especially enjoyed wondering around exploring the jobs and the Abbey Gardens.
We will certainly be recommended the house to our friends, whether you want to relax around the house or go out exploring this is the ideal retreat.
