Stayed 1 night on a business trip. Staff very friendly. Nice location at the front. Hotel is a bit tired. Room was nice though in this area air con is really needed in the summer. I kept the window open but still too hot and noisy! Tried the fan provided but that was noisy too! Breakfast was nice. I'd score it good if that was an option. Very good is a bit generous but average would be harsh.

We have stayed here a number of times, the best being in the early 90’s when this hotel had character. It still retains some character but not in the restaurant-bar.

Staff are lovely, nothing is too much trouble. Our room overlooked the shingle beach. A couple of points and not of the hotel’s making but to consider if you are booking here. The fishing boat directly across the road starts up around 4am and it startled us the first morning! They use a bulldozer to slide it to the sea and then again to bring it up about 8.40-9ish. Seagulls, a known fact but if your window is open then expect the decibels to rise. A plus is the people watching along Cragg Path. Those with mobile phones looking for a signal are usually the tourists.

We ate in the restaurant on two evenings. We consider twice is enough as there are plenty of restaurants to choose from in the local area. The hotel is close to everything -shops, cinema, chippy, beach, walks. Our room was on the small side in comparison to what you might expect at a more modern newly built hotel, but it has its charms in one of two areas.

There is an Indian restaurant within the hotel called Sea Spice, the original restaurant of the hotel. We didn’t eat here so can’t comment.

Rooms are clean and staff attentive at cleaning.

Parking can be challenging in the summer months - you have to be canny and vigilant to get a spot opposite the hotel as there are only a few spaces at the rear, two at least are for guests with mobility challenges. The hotel des have a lift.

If you prefer a little more peace and quiet then book in the winter months as August saw too many people. However this break was all about recovering from surgery and booked very last minute.

Stayed at the White Lion for a weekend as we wanted to explore this part of the coast. Lovely stay, comfy room and the food was excellent, nice having a served breakfast instead of a buffet. Staff were friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble.

Room Tip: Sea view is best the seagulls are noisy but that's what being by the seaside is about. Also nosey view enjoyed watching the Pétanque.

We have just spent a wonderful couple of nights staying at this hotel. From the outside you can see it has history and parts are in the process of being painted but from the inside it's very nice. The room was large and overlooking the sea as we woke up was wonderful. We dined in the restaurant and the food was amazing, the service attentive and the staff friendly. A perfect start to our marriage, thank you mark white
