“Fascinating history to this Cathedral”

Lichfield Cathedral
Ranked #1 of 20 things to do in Lichfield
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 3 May 2018

We were lucky that a guided tour was about to take place shortly after we arrived and were even luckier that apart from the two of us, there was only one other person who joined the tour. This allowed us to find out about the history of the building (and others previously on the site) taking us from the eighth century to the present day. Many things were pointed out that we may not have noticed (such as the lean to the walls) and context and explanations were provided for many of the things we were able to see. In addition there was an exhibition commemorating 100 years since the end of the first world war.
Overall, a fascinating and absorbing visit.

The Cathedral is free to enter. you can give donations which helps the Cathedral's daily upkeep. It is truly beautiful both on the inside and outside. We have been to several events here and the Cathedral is always inspiring whatever the event. There is a small gift shop where you can buy gifts plus a gift shop outside the cathedral at No 9 in The Close.

My wife myself and four friends went to see the Lichfield youth company perform les Miserables at the cathedral on Saturday, what a fantastic day! The show was superb and enjoyed by us all couldn't fault any of it well done to all involved! And the cathedral was a very good venue and everyone worked hard to make this a fantastic production, brilliant all round!

An impressive place of history and peace. Many smaller areas to sit and reflect. Plus many events scheduled for all types to attend.

Lichfield Cathedral is easy to get to from the train station. It is well sign posted.

The cathedral is very peaceful, it has interesting historical displays and entry is free however they ask for donations.

They were very helpful and I was given a leaflet to aid my visit. Unfortunately tower tours weren't running when I visited.
