“Look up or you might miss this statue!”

James Boswell Statue
Reviewed 3 May 2018

So easy to miss this statue as you walk through Lichfield Market Square. Dr. Samuel Johnson's statue is often looked at because he is very close to his birthplace. James Boswell's statue is near St. Mary's Church. He was a friend of Dr. Johnson's and they went travelling together. Dr. Johnson introduced Boswell to Lichfield and its 'civilised people within it'.

This was the first clue on our city treasure hunt. In the market square and quite an imposing sight. City is full of history

We found this statue right in the heart of the market place on a busy Saturday. James Boswell was born in 1740 and is know for his biography of Dr Samuel Johnson who is famous throughout Lichfield.
Lovely statue standing high on a pedestal with inscriptions around the sides.
Look out for this and many more statues as you walk around Lichfield.
