Looks modern from the outside, but different story inside the rooms. Furnished with old Travelodge fittings and colours.

Corridor on our floor smelt bad, like old sweat.

Room had scuffed walls and stained skirting boards (see picture). Only two electrical sockets in the whole room.

Bathroom in need of modernisation and a deep clean. Smelly plug holes and a door which was in need of desperate oiling; it sounded like a whoopee cushion every time it was moved.

Bad noise insulation from next door room with us able to hear their conversations. Slamming doors throughout the night.

Requested a quiet room but placed on the first floor directly facing Oxford Rd, which is an extremely busy road with a lot of sirens from emergency vehicles and loud rumbling busses.

Two bad nights of sleep resulted.

One good thing was the breakfast, which had a decent amount of choice.

Absolutely pathetic if I have to put it simply.

Reception staff doesn’t answer the phones showed it to the manager as well but he seems to be least bothered.

Everytime you have to call the booking desk which seems to be a callcenter and they have no connect with the hotel.

Even if you get connected the staff at times will put you on hold and not revert for 10-12 minutes, I had to give my reservation number( agent and hotel reference), name thrice to the same staff and wait for 25 mins so that they can find my reservation.

Underground parking is extremely cluttered not ok for a 4 wheel drive due to which my new 4 wheel drive got damaged.

Food was cold during breakfast(continental), coffee was ok.

In my entire life I never had such a terrible experience with any hotel.

I wish I could blacklist them, absolute mess.

Dear Pavneetsinghrajpal,

Thank you for your review of your recent stay at ibis Styles Hotel Oxford Rd.

I am very sorry to hear that the phone system did not work properly during your stay and you encountered some challenges getting through to the main desk. You will be pleased to know that this has now been fully resolved and no future guests will be inconvenience in a similar way.

I must respectfully disagree with your comments about the car parking facilities at our hotel. The car park has clearly delineated lines for all the cars, is CCTV monitored and there is also a register of all the vehicles parked and I can assure you that our front desk team manages these facilities to their best abilities.

Unfortunately I must also respectfully disagree with your comments about our breakfast.
Please note that our prices are inclusive of continental breakfast only. This is part of Ibis Styles ‘all inclusive breakfast’ which you can experience in other properties with Ibis Styles branding all over the world.
As an additional bonus of staying with us we also provide three complimentary cooked items (currently: scramble eggs, baked beans and sausages). We don’t advertise our breakfast as full English one so I am somewhat surprised at your expectations.

I hope that you will consider giving us a second chance. Please contact me directly prior to your next visit. I would be delighted to assist you with your booking and will do my utmost to ensure that we make your stay a memorable, safe and pleasant one.

Once again my deepest apologies, and I trust you will not judge us solely on this particular experience and will give us the opportunity to redeem ourselves.

With kind regards

The staff here are an absolute pleasure and very friendly, especially Dominika, kate & karl, within the evening team as they are extremely approachable and will endeavour to help out as best as they can.
As a regular customer within this hotel I always feel extremely a warm welcome upon arrival and a gratuitous goodbye on departure.
Too all the team, many thanks for a comfortable stay

Easy to find with satnav and the big, clear, green Ibis sign.
Great staff such as Rita the receptionist, Alex on the bar and karl checking us out next morning - friendly, helpful, interesting and efficient.
Large quiet room at back of hotel; nice, light airy and easy to adjust room temperature on radiator thermostat. Bathroom had a shower in bath which was a proper long bath. Bed was the usual highly comfortable Ibis mattress and topper.
About 30-40 minute walk into Reading town centre / Oracle centre, dawdling along the way; one could not describe the area as chic, but it was interesting and we felt safe. The road was busy but we did not hear anyhting cos of the excellent soundproofing.
The hotel has a small bar and restaurant; reasonable choice of drinks at bar and food on menu (we tried the drinks but not the food)
Breakfast had an extensive menu with cooked (scrambled eggs, beans, sausages), packet cereals, an excellent muesli, bread, boiled eggs, cheese, charcuterie, muffins, viennoiserie etc - the best selection we have had in any standard restaurant or in any Accor restaurant.
Car parking on site was fine - £5.00 extra so cheaper than many other hotels.
For disabled folk, there was a lift up the entrance steps, although the shower in the bath would have been an obstacle (no grab rails - but could ask if shower only bathrooms available)
For security, the staircase to the rooms is controlled by a secure keycard controlled door.
WiFi was easy to use and worked well
All in all an excellent restful trip; we will use this hotel again without hesitation.

Room tip: Ask for a quiet room
