So after a few nights here..I feel the need to write...
Polite and efficient Receptionist... Room tidy enough but bathroom minuscule.. if staying for one night that’s fine, but not otherwise.
Restaurant looks nice enough. Shown to a single table lined up with loads of other single tables so felt a bit out on a limb.. the sad corner came to mind 😳
Chose a sirloin.. rare .. and was true to request..prob more blue than rare but have to say delicious.
There is a but I’m afraid.. and the but is where it all came tumbling down .. the fries (skinny) as ordered, I think must have been brought out of an archive gallery or discovered by the Time Team! Cardboard and cold wasn’t the word. Blugh!
Should have sent them back but was in a rush. Sadly I have found generally the food is good, but there is always something shoddy that taints the experience.
What I don’t get about the fries is any reasonable chef would never in a month of Sunday’s let something so bad leave his/her kitchen.. particularly when the steak was so good.. It smacked of laziness.
Sadly, as have just started on six months in Reading, and the H.I. is the company preferred hotel, I’m not enthused with staying here, purely down to the food.

There are a lot of great reviews here which are generally fair, but after a while, niggles become infuriating.
Can I stick 6 months?....it’s not looking good.

We stayed here on Saturday night whilst visiting our son. We usually use The Holiday Inn as my husband is a member of the IHG Rewards Club and whilst we find most are good, this one was very good!
The rooms have been attractively refurbished and the bed was extremely comfortable and huge as it was two singles pushed together. As there was a mattress topper on the bed, the join was barely noticeable. The bathroom, although well fitted out, was a little small, but the shower over the bath had good pressure and plenty of hot water. A rail for the towels would have been useful.
Although the hotel is situated conveniently near the M4, there was no traffic noise and we were not disturbed by any kind of noise all night.
Breakfast was excellent with a wide range of choices from cereal, yogurt and fruit to a full cooked breakfast. There were also pastries, bread for toast and cold meats. Although the restaurant was busy, there were always staff on hand to replenish dishes that were getting low.
We were very impressed with the customer service provided by all the staff. Everyone was polite, cheerful and ready to give assistance. I would particularly like to thank Kevin on reception. I had lost my mobile phone and hoped I had left it behind in the room. When I phoned the hotel the next day, Kevin put me through to housekeeping, having looked in reception without luck. When there wasn't any reply, he said he would go there himself and call me back within twenty minutes. Ten minutes or so later he did just that with the great news that he had my phone! He did offer to send it to me, but luckily my son was able to collect it.
We will definitely stay here when we visit Reading again and highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed here as two families travelling together whilst visiting nearby Legoland. I can't fault it and wouldn't hesitate to book here again! They are so child friendly which made for a happy stay for us adults. One of the adults in our party has a serious food allergy and they couldn't of been more helpful. Very thorough and knowledgable staff which is refreshing and reassuring. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. Staff on arrival were very friendly and welcoming.

Im a platinum member of the IHG hotel group as I use the Holiday Inn weekly. However the stay here was less then preferable. My room felt like it was made if cardboard as the movements of the person in the room above was load enough to keep me awake and my room was shaking with each footstep. The restaurant was very nice but the same couldn't be said for the food. I was still chewing my steak on the second day. I also had to eat there on the second night so booked a table for 7:15. At 7:00 they decided to close the restaurant for an hour (no explanation). Eventually got to sit down and had dinner at 8:40. Thought I would choose something they couldn't get wrong. Still not good and only could eat half of it. Next morning on checkout I expressed my disapproval and was told the manager would come and see me before I left (still waiting) 3 days since. Needless to say I will be looking for alternative accomadation on my next visit to Reading.
