Stayed here for a 2 night break. The building itself is old, so you can understand there will be some issues (taps dripping, creaky floorboards) but it sort of adds to the character of the building (it used to be an orphanage). We stayed in the Chapel Down suite. Big room, with seating in front of the bed, along with a 'baby' chaise lounge. There is a full length mirror - brilliant - however, no lighting near it. There is a mirror about half the size of the full length above the desk - again, no lighting. There is a floor lamp next to it, but virtually gives no light from it. The room has spot lights controlled by a dimmer switch, which again doesn't offer hardly any light. The bathroom had a lovely roll top bath, and separate shower area, which was also really big. There are 2 sinks (his and hers) which have a mirror above each, along with a shelf. Again, the lighting in between the mirrors is very poor. I point this out, because it's near impossible to apply makeup in that lighting. You can't get near the mirrors in the bathroom due to the sink and the shelf, which would be ok if there was adequate lighting. There is a huge window in the bathroom, but you can only open and close the blinds. You cannot pull them up to let more light in. There is a safe, tea/coffee making facilities, mini bar, hairdryer, ironing board and iron, but the iron isn't the best, however it does have a light on it! I realise I have gone on about the lighting, but I think this is something all women (and some men) would like to know.

The hotel itself offers car parking for £10 per day, on a first come first serve basis. It's around a 10 min walk to the city centre, but close by (2 mins) there are plenty of pubs and eateries (KFC, chippy, Subway, Sainsbury's Local, and an Odeon), so I felt the location was excellent. The breakfast had a continental option as well as some other cooked options. We did have to ask for milk and juice a few times, as these didn't seem to get automatically replenished.

The staff are very helpful, and pleasant.

We stayed at this hotel for one night in August. The staff are fantastic and very helpful. The rooms, however, are a little on the small side. We were in 'Champy' which is one of the renovated rooms. The fittings and toiletries (REN) were very good. Unfortunately, it was a hot day and the room became increasingly uncomfortable and despite the fan and opening the window, we were unable to sleep. We were only staying one night so it wasn't the end of the world.

The location is great - in the heart of Harrogate which makes it easy to explore. The restaurant is also excellent as are the communal areas and wine bar.

We'd definitely come back to the restaurant and bar but would probably give the rooms a miss especially on a hot day.

I was left in charge of booking a hotel and meal for my friends Hen party in York. So i thought to myself oooooh lets posh it up in Hotel Du Vin that will be a nice treat!!

As you could imagine we were a large group of hens flocking from all around the country. 3 of us including myself had travelled from manchester and had arrived 1st to check in.

When we pulled up to the hotel we were very very impressed with what we saw....... A cigar shed outside, a lovely old historical building which i believe was converted from an old orphanage to a hotel. We then walked passed a beautiful private dining room on our way to reception, an impressive stair case to some bedrooms, a wine cellar to die for, the hotel gave me a Miss Marple era feel to it almost. So we are very very impressed with what we saw.........Then became very very concerned that i had just booked a hen party into such a classy hotel.

Check in was faultless a young blonde lady (sorry didnt catch her name) escorted us outside to another part of the hotel to our rooms and explained our friends were our neighbours. Out of the way...... WISE MOVE du vin....... This made me feel more relieved. The rooms were lovely, clean and spacious! And the shower was incredible we had a small issue with a lamp not working but as soon as we called to report this within minutes the problem was solved by the lovely Jannet!

Ok this has gone from a review to a life story so il wrap this up dead quick

Dinner - awesome service by all food was top! (considering some of the party were drunk and were a pain in the backside)

Magician - Brilliant very entertaining (thanks willam for sorting us out for that)

Breakfast - yummy again great service by all very friendly staff. i had the french toast and bacon with maple syrup (great hangover food)

Check out again, same girls who'd checked us in and were fab and very friendly.

Working in hospitality i know how 'challenging' a group of hens can be too look after and know how much hard work and effort goes into this by all the staff so i really really really appreciate everything, and did my bestest to keep them under control so hope we weren't too bad.

Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who asks me and will be visiting again.

I do want to highlight Jannet though she is one of the friendliest people i have ever met and nothing was too much trouble and she really looked after us. Shes a keeper!

Room was super having paid extra for upgrade.

Location was ideal just far enough away from the buzz of the city but within walking .distance

Staff in general were so very pleasant. In particular one very multi tasking young lady

Breakfast was great with so much choice and cooked to perfection.

Set menu for evening dinner was limited, only one complaint half of the mussels were un opened! and liquid sauce rather bland. This was forgotten about when a very kind lady gave us 2 glasses of champagne to celebrate our anniversary

Stayed for two nights and had a lovely time. Possibly the Best reception team I've come across! Rooms was large, bed comfy, air con a little too good at times. Soft drinks free from the mini bar plus tea and coffee. Bathroom was attractive and shower powerful. It is over the bath however and a bit of a step out without hand rails.
Public areas of the hotel were classy and we enjoyed sitting with a glass of wine. Micklegate bar is five minutes away and it's flat to there; station only a minute or two further. However, we ate in the hotel morning and evening after two full days out. Breakfast was £16 each. It was nice but service could be slow and they ran out of berry compote the first morning with an hour of breakfast still to go.
Piece de resistance and reason for five stars however was that we left two shirts behind in the wardrobe. I rang from the A66 and they were with us two days later! Thank you, Reception team: top class again!
