“Excellent place to stay in York”

This was the second time we have stayed in this apartment. It is warm and comfortable. It is a very short walk to York and the large Sainsbury's literally around the corner. The bathrooms have good showers. The kitchen has everything you would want except for a medium sized frying pan. For the costs involved we would always see if this apartment was available before looking at any other property.

“Lovely base to explore York”
Reviewed 3 December 2014 for a stay in November 2014

The flat was very nice and made a good place to stay for our group of 6. It worked out as good value considering it wasn't much more expensive per person per night than hostels we had originally considered for our stay - a tiny bit more squashed using the sofa bed rather than going for an apartment with 3 bedrooms but comfy all the same.

Inside it was spacious and bright and actually looked better than the photos listed here - it does already look decent from the photos but I had a very pleasant surprise on entry. The bed in the twin room where I slept was incredibly comfy and the kitchen well equipped for staying in and cooking, and it was convenient to be just round the corner from Sainsburys!

The location just outside the city walls meant kitchen had a great view of York Minster from the window and it only took about 5 minutes to walk into the city proper (20mins from the train station). Highlights from our trip included breakfast at Betty's tearoom and the Christmas fair near St. Helen's square :)

Be sure to visit Barley Hall if you like history as there was a unique little Christmas market and a very interesting exhibition for only a few pounds.

Liked best: Comfy beds, stylish building, own private parking space, warm and cosy, beautiful kitchen area, handy location.
Liked least: Downstairs bathroom door was very stiff/got stuck so some people had to be 'rescued' from it by others from outside. Some scuff marks on the walls and the information provided both about the flat and York could do with an update? No recycling bin!

“Just outside the city walls”

We arrived on a horribly unseasonable day - sleety freezing rain and wind, but were met by a friendly face and a warm apartment. The building was the old hospital, beautifully restored. The apartment is on the 2nd floor, and is two storey, with one of the bathrooms downstairs. It is located just round the corner from Goodramgate, so a quick walk into York. There's a big Sainsbury's right behind the building, open late most nights. The bedrooms only have skylights and the downstairs windows don't open so a bit tricky determining the temperature, and what to wear! Well equipped kitchen, smallish living areas, but views over the city and the Minster. Visit Coffee Culture in Goodramgate - fantastic coffee in a wonderful old building.
