Although you have to pay to get in, I felt it was worth every penny. My partner and I spent a good few hours there, and definitely could have spent longer. The displays are varied and the old street is fascinating and great interactive fun. Nice mix of items for all ages and never felt overly crowded. It's in close proximity to the center and also other attractions if you're wanting to fit a lot into one day. There's also a nice gift shop and cafe too (which we didn't eat at but seemed clean and spacious). Overall, a definite must do for history lovers in York.

It has it all , something for kids and those that want to step into history. Do not miss a walk into victorian England, with a lovely sweet shop.

Although there is an entry fee to the museum it is worth every penny. There is plenty of interest for all ages and the recreated street brings history to life. A good experience even for those not particularly into museums, as it includes more recent items even showing some things still in mine!
