Stayed here last week for a conference and overall it was okay. The good things are the hotel has recently undergone a major refurb, mostly to the rooms and everything looks nice, crisp and of high quality - as to be expected. It is also very close to Hyde Park, and some rooms have fantastic views over it and the city. The staff at reception is great, both at checkin and out. But there are some staff that came across as impatient and disinterested in the guests needs, especially in the Island Grill restaurant- not so good. Also, room service needs improving - food was basically cold on arrival and warning: the avocado on toast with poached egg on the breakfast menu is one of the most unusual things I've tasted. Having just done a refurb, the hotel could have invested in better beds - our bed was mid-range rather than the high quality you'd expect.

But the hotel is in a great location with lots of amenities around it. Paddington station is about 10 mins walk, and Lancaster Gate tube station is just around the corner. Had lunch at the bar near reception one day and that was pretty good, with very attentive and friendly staff. So the hotel has many good qualities, they just need those final tweaks to make for a smooth stay.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a view over Hyde Park

Dear BeeHonest2015,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay in particular our refurbished room, great views and location of the Royal Lancaster which are the great benefits to our guests.

I am naturally concerned that the In room dining experience and your visit to Island Grill did not meet your expectations. I will make sure our Restaurant Manager and Head Chef are informed of your feedback.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the Royal Lancaster London soon.

Warm Regards

Doreen Soltan

My husband and I stayed in a city view room for 7 nights in March this year fat the beginning of an extended holiday in the UK and were very happy with our stay. The room was exceptionally clean, the bed was really comfy and the rain shower a welcome treat at the end of a long London day. The hotel is an easy 10 minute walk from Paddington Station (for the Heathrow Express) and 2 mins from Lancaster Gate for tube connections. The gardens directly opposite are a fantastic opportunity to escape the busy London streets and a beautiful path through to Buckingham Palace. We walked home from late night shopping trips on Oxford Street with no problem (around 15 mins) making this a really well located hotel. Breakfast in the hotel was 'ok', hence the 4 star rating rather than 5 - it wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. There are many little cafe's and restaurants within a few mins walk from the hotel that provide options for breakfast, lunch and dinner which were very helpful to us during our stay. I was grateful for the advice if previous tripadvisor comments to ask for all contents of the mini bar to be removed so that we could use the fridge for our own supplies. The fridge has an automatic charge service - once you take something out, you pay for it - so be mindful of this. Also be aware if you have a lot of luggage ( we had 2 large bags each plus carry on), there's not a great deal of room and expect to use the lounge under the window for storage, reducing seating areas to the bed.
All in all, I would recommend the Lancaster Gate for its location, its comfort and value for money,

Room Tip: The city view rooms offer a great outlook over London - we had views to the London Eye.

Stayed for 3 nights while attending a conference that was held at the hotel. Room was a 'Delux with view'. Not much of a view, but could still see Hyde Park. Room was on the smaller side, but that is normal for London. Building itself is a high rise from the '60 so quite "functional" - but has recently been renovated. Continental breakfast was ok, nothing special. Service was very good. Location good, close to Paddington station.

The Royal Landcaster has been recently renovated in a refreshing modern decor along with technology to match it's new personality. Just 8 minutes walk away from the Paddington train station, this is especially convenient if you take the Heathrow Express to and from the Heathrow terminals. The lobby is airy with many high tech feautres including the latest desktop systems. The room is very well designed with multiple lighting systems and USB ports at every corner. The daytime and nighttime blinds are electric and the intricate marble floors in the bathroom is heated. The room has been designed and built with great detail and all closet lights and under counter lights are LED based with auto on and off feature. The bathroom also features celing rain shower system with great water pressure and control. The heated towel rack keeps the towels dry and the large vanity area is good for laying out all your toiletries. The mini bar is very well stocked and they also provide a serious coffee, hot chocolate and tea selections. Our standard room comes with a king size bed with rich and soft sheets and ultra plush pillows. A small desk is enough for light business use and the couch with a gorgeous coffee table is perfect for casual dining. The TV is a 42 inch Samsung LED with great quality image display. From soft closing drawers to a bonafied large metal safe this room has everything you need to stay comfortable. I also need to mention the state of the art clinate system that is quiet and simple to operate. The staff is also very friendly and accomodating. Besides convenience to the train station, there are numerous small neighborhood grocery stores and delicious but reasonably priced restaurants in the area. For the same price you can only get a mediocre quality hotel and room in the nearby Marble Arch, Mary LeBone or SOHO area. If you like high tech and modern hotel, this will be a great stay for you. Keep in mind that all room have a nice view but there are larger and higher scale rooms available on the top floors.

Spent another very pleasant weekend at The Royal Lancaster, this being the forth time we have celebrated my wifes birthday here.
The refurbishment is now almost complete and the accomodation and interior decor is superb.
We never cease to be impressed by the extremely friendly and helpfulness of the staff, it always seems they can never do enough to make it a wonderful experience.
In the restaurants the staff worked very hard to ensure an enjoyable experience, not to mention the excellence of the cuisine.
I know we don't always welcome birthdays coming round as we get older but we do always look forward to our stays at this hotel.

Room Tip: Select one nearest to the front to enjoy the views over Hyde Park.
