Satin back to the mid 17th century, Jermyn Street is synonymous worldwide with gentleman’s clothing and suits in particular.

Just along from Piccadilly, it was notably quiet when we ventured along there last week, maybe the recession is hitting.?

My friend and I have shared a passion for handcrafted objects be they tools, clothing, furniture, whatever. While we’d indepnede travelled to London many times we finally got to make a trip together and took the opportunity to take a guided tour of Savile Row and Jermyn Street. We can’t recommend Cindy Lawford highly enough. She afforded us access to the back rooms of the most prestigious tailoring houses where we spoke with a variety of informative and entertaining professionals, all of this supplemented with Cindy’s social history of the 17th and 18th century underpinning the evolution of the St James precinct. Cindy was a delightful companion and generous with her time. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

Jermyn Street in London is chock full of wonderful little shops and temptations that are NOT to be missed. Bespoke Tailors and Shoemakers make the trip hard to resist. Do not forget to visit Max Reed Books, great books and art! All in one area and for heaven's sake DO NOT forget your CREDIT card! Fortnum and Mason is just up the street, two or three small very OLD pubs nearby, so it is a well worth trip to make when in The UK! Really a great slice of olde London to be had!

Walking around London on our most recent trip & we came across Jermyn Street (I'm sure though Ive walked along it several times before) On this walk though took a 'proper' look and what a selection of shop there are. Although some are more expensive, there are some that are more regular priced shops.

Like much of London there are building works taking place here. The shops are still open for business but vehicular access is limited. Use a bus or tube instead. It still has a reputation as the best place for quality men’s clothes in London.
