Even with Flu I went to the Frida Kahlo exhibition today. Spent an hour there. Gradually I kept thinking I wonder what Frida Kahlo would have thought of it. Atmosphere wise it was dark tomblike, to many people on top of each other, the most jarring aspect of the experience was the awful electronic sound over head. It wasn't music, more like a single saw being used constantly without a change of tone even. She represented colour, courage and expression of soul. It would have been a lot more uplifting if the music was more reflective of her and the culture she was passionate about. Her clothes and jewellery were beautiful, and I was touched by how she was creative with the medical appliances she had to wear. I should have just remembered and will watch again the beautiful documentary I saw of the contribution to her memory by the Mexicans..

The grand building itself is reason enough for a visit, and do have lunch in the cafeteria with stained-glass windows. Walk and walk through exhibits ranging from artifacts from the Raj to miniatures to the best-designed silverware from the 20th Century.

There are exhibits for everyone, so wide is the choice and type of items to see. The building and its various halls alone are worth seeing. Or enjoying a cup of coffee in the lovely court yard. Best of all, when taking the subway to South Kensington there is a tunnel which leads from the subway directly into the museum. Sadly many objects or sometimes entire rooms are very badly lit so that exhibits can hardly be seen. This came as a bad surprise, as the museum has just been renovated. On the positive side is that descriptions are on a good height to read (contrary to the British Museum where descriptions are close to the floor!). A visit enriches a stay in London very much.

The museum does have other pieces - oriental, Roman, British, even some Raphaels, if you can find them. But it is the fashion that is the highlight. The English treat museums like pubs. Chatty and rude. The collection is also poorly planned. A maze, with related items on different floors, and few signs. So I would plan your route carefully.

There is a large although random variety of historical art in the collection, from greek, roman, persian, asian up to the modern european culture. There are also curated exhibitions that are current. The mix is slightly unfocused but still entertains. The building itself is grand and classical. The location is conveniently connected to the tube, and near many city centre restaurants and shoppings
