Afternoon Tea...Underwhelming

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Sept 2023
I have been a frequent visitor to Dean Street Townhouse for lunches and dinner. This week I opted to go for afternoon tea with a friend. It is advertised as being back on the program. I think they should take it OFF. So underwhelming. The room is dark and dingy. We sat down and the staff were not welcoming. Patrons were squashed against each other. Certainly not a good atmosphere. One redeeming factor is the scones were nice but only came with a tiny bit of jam. I had to ask for more. No way would that suffice 4 scones. We won't be back.

Room Tip: Look around for another venue.

I took a friend here for afternoon tea. We arrived on time and we’re given a warm welcome. Ordered our food which arrived promptly. From then on no staff member spoke to us to ask if we needed anything or if everything was satisfactory. Eventually we managed to grab someone’s attention to ask for extra tea. This arrived but still no one asked how things were or if we wanted any other drinks or good.
I was so disappointed as I had heard such great things about the place. The food was great and it’s a lovely venue but sadly the staff let it down. I shan’t be returning or recommending to others.

Always love this restaurant which is is buzzing and friendly and not too pricey for central London. Better book to get a good table - the best are by the window - because it can be a trifle noisy but wherever you sit you will both feel at home and in a cosmopolitan venue which might equally be in Paris Rome or New York. I particularly love the Sunday roasts with Yorkshire pud and all the veg

Room tip: Book and don’t bring a car this is bang in the middle of Soho with taxis tubes and buses to hand

Love this place. Brilliant atmosphere and we had the most lovely waiter, a young French guy who made us laugh lots. Delicious breakfast at the same price you’d find in zone 2, let alone in the middle of Soho. On point cocktails. The Saturday brunch menu goes on until 5pm.

Massively over rated IMHO

Very average food at very above average prices

Got the impression that people come here for reasons other than gastronomy

I had mice and potatoes which is, I was told, their signature dish

I expected some amazing twist on this famous school dinner and there isn’t one !

You can dine better for less minutes away

This place has a warm clubby friendly feel to it well worth a visit either for a bite or even just a nightcap as was the case on this latest visit. Could do with some live music to make it even better.
