“Simply didn't want to leave and definitely booking again”
Reviewed 22 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

Just before seeing a barn owl fly alongside the car for a few seconds, we turned off the b1190 down a farm track giving a lovely promise of privacy. The "big sky country" that is Lincoln was forming a sunset that spanned further than anything we're used to in hilly north Nottinghamshire. Just as we thought we may have gotten lost we saw the sign for the house. The landscape around is open and rural. As we pulled up to the lock (assigned parking space), we just beamed with Cheshire cat grins at the surroundings causing us to not even enter the house for 10-15 minutes simply exploring the immediate area, just awesome. We were met by Dawn who was very welcoming into the lock house. WOW, we've stayed in a dozen or so lets over the years and this was easily in the top 3 and we new the fee was more than suitable. After showing us where to find everything and how it worked (heated bathroom floor that you keeps your attention in wistful daze!!!). Also, a nice surprise as mentioned in other reviews is the little welcome package which I imagine would be very useful if arriving without food - Tea, coffee, bread, butter, bacon, cheese, milk and wine and flowers, nice complementary touch. The interior was a well thought out mix of clean, airy modernized decor with lovely rural cottage touches. We beamed at each other again at this and the varying postcard views from the windows. Being an avid cook I took some utensils, trays and pans which helped but not totally necessary. The bed was like an orthopedic cloud, the fire place heart warming, the heating system was like something from 20 years in the future, spacious rooms throughout. By 10 pm with a film, glass of wine and a fire we felt very relaxed. By the end of the weekend we felt we'd been away for a much longer than 2 days.

The garden is better kept and planned than our own and we our avid green fingered folk! There's, plenty of garden furniture that in clement weather gets a lot of use. The river and lock and nearby moorings give a lovely gentle sense of activity here and there, everyone smiling and full of greeting if you open to it. We chatted with more strangers in 2 days then we would in 2 week in our own neighbourhood. Bardney is a leisurely half hour walk alongside the river where we visited the heritage center for a lovely fish and chips and history lesson, also the research book in the lock house about it's history really gave a sense of privilege to touch the past.

Jeanette was helpful throughout the booking and obviously a lot of love and attention to making the Lock house (and garden) the gorgeous, dreamy haven it is.

Highlight - The whole thing really but the abundance of wildlife was amazing. In 2 days we spotted varying birds including owls, swans, grebes, ducks/mallards, heron, pheasant, partridge, then hares, rabbits, perch and minnow.

“"WOW Mama....is MUCH better than I thought.....!!!"”

Our third stay at the lovely Lock House. We have seen it grow and develop over the last year. Jeanette continues to add those homely touches to each room. This time we were accompanied by our 12 and 8 year old Grand Daughters. They loved the the house and garden and felt safe and relaxed there. They did take their "tablets" and portable DVDs which kept them entertained in the evenings, but they spent a lot of time out in the garden. We were able to visit the seaside at Skegness for a long afternoon. A stroll on the beach, fish and chips and rides at the amusement park. Another afternoon was filled with a visit to Lincoln shops, cathedral and castle. The title comment is what the 12 year old said after a quick exploration when we first arrived!!

“Relaxing and comfortable - a very peaceful place to be”
Reviewed 28 November 2012 for a stay in November 2012

I stayed at Bardney Lock House with my mother and my dog - and we all had a wonderful time. The cottage was really well-equipped and we were met by Dawn who kindly showed us round the property and explained everything. A thoughtfully-provided food parcel was a real treat too and gratefully received!

The log-burner was also a bonus, and was very easy to light - we needed it after all the rain! The cottage was very comfortable and it would have been very easy just to stay there all time, rather than sight-seeing. It is quite rural, but the boat-owners and local fishermen stop you feeling at all isolated.

Liked least: The rain - but at least it didn't flood like a high % of England at the time!
