We booked a last minute room on 1 Jan after looking at quite a few other hotels that were unavailable, we got a room at Grand Hotel! My husband went to reception and 40mins later came out saying only room available had double bed, sofa and pull out. (Found out Sofa was actually a sofa - not sofa bed which my 5’11” 15yo son had to try to sleep on with his legs hanging off the end, the pull out bed was even shorter, but was fine for 10yo). Funny thing was that I could have booked online and got two rooms (double and twin), but for some reason we were told that’s all that was available!!
The room seemed clean but kept feeling like we were being bitten (by something), but very dated and the carpet certainly is in need of replacing.
The front of the building needs a good hose down and wash including the glass doors that you could barely see through. The large foyer area was dirty and lacked any sense of warmth or care.
Breakfast was average but when my husband ordered a cappuccino her was told that they didn’t make those, but then 10mins later one arrived at our table!
If we were staying longer than 1 night we would have been extremely disappointed, but came to terms that as it was just somewhere to sleep for 1 night it would do!!
Please think twice about staying here if you don’t want to be disappointed.

Great staff but hotel is somewhat dated. Rooms are clean but general areas showing wear and tear. most disappointing was the £7 per day parking fee, which was 20% of the cost of the room! Breakfast was good but limited choice.

Room tip: Check out the parking charges before booking

We booked the Grand when it was orginally the Hilton Hotel. We were not imformed prior to arriving that Britannia had brought the hotel which was disappointing. The hotel looks run down and the pool area wasn't very clean. Our room was average and expensive for what we got. The food was ok but over proced for what it was, as were the drinks at the bar.
