Every last detail had been thought of, the herb rack is better stocked than mine at home! A perfect relaxed weekend away in luxury for us and for our 2 dogs who loved the log fire and big garden to run around in! Would recommend and will be visiting again.

“Everything you need for a comfy retreat”

The cottage was a perfect place for our New Year break. We couldn't fault the effort put in to make our stay comfy, cosy and welcome. The people in the village pub and shop in Melmerby, and down the Road in Langwathby, both the Shepherds Inn, were very welcoming and provided good food. Great walks and a trip on the train to Settle. Great!

“Charming, supremely comfortable cottage!”

Stayed with the family for a short break in October half-term. Beautiful cottage, extremely comfortable, with everything we needed for a very enjoyable stay. Very comfortable beds in beamed-ceilinged bedrooms, with en suite facilities in both bedrooms. Very well equipped kitchen with everything you could possibly require, and excellent welcome hamper! Cracking log burner in the lounge, with plentiful logs provided, for cosy evenings in front of the fire, and modern central heating system to ensure the cottage is very warm.
The Lakes are only a short drive away, and we had a couple of enjoyable hikes around Ullswater. We also walked out from the cottage towards Melmerby fell, with a pit stop at the Shepherds Inn on the way back. We had a very enjoyable meal here one night, with good food at a reasonable price, with friendly staff.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and looking forward to returning in the future!

“Fabulous Cottage and base to explore the Lakes”

Stag Cottage is a special place. The thoughtful owners have created a little haven for their guests to unwind. From the crackling log fire in the living room to the cosy double beds and hot shower, you know that you've found the perfect retreat to put your feet up after a day exploring all the Lakes have to offer. From the welcome hamper to the provision of firewood, charcoal for the bbq etc, no detail has been left off. A BIG thank you to Christine, Jilly and all at Rowley Estates for enabling our honeymoon to start with such a peaceful setting.

“The Perfect Get away Yet Again!”
Reviewed 20 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Having stayed at Blencowe Hall for my friends wedding in September 2014, I instantly fell in love with the estate! I was due to celebrate my 30th birthday in 2015 and knew this was the place I wanted to bring my family to spend my birthday. We rented Cazenovia Hall and Riverain Cottage and from start to finish the weekend was made very memorable. Not only was it my 30th birthday, my parents wedding anniversary was also the same time and Jilly and Christine went out of their way to ensure a nice surprise was greeted for my parents. They arrived to a gorgeous bunch or flowers and a nice bottle of wine (which they seemed to enjoy that evening!). Jilly, Christine and all of the team will endeavour to do anything you require, to make sure your stay is as pleasant and memorable as you want! After such a lovely weekend I came home all depressed because I wanted to go back! No sooner did I get back I booked to stay again in October for a little family vacation where myself, husband, 4 month old son and dog, this time staying at stag cottage, Melmerby Hall. To be honest I wasn't expecting to fall in love with the place as much as I did at Blencowe Hall but again I was wowed by the peaceful setting, cosy cottage and friendly village of Melmerby. Having a 4 month old baby limits us as to what we can do but Melmerby village had everything we needed for our 3 night stay. We had The Shepherds Inn for food and drink, the staff here are lovely and welcomed our dog on every occasion! We also enjoyed coffee and cake at the village bakery which also features a gallery of local artists...something me and my husband are very passionate about. I now have a couple of pictures in memory of our stay! Behind the bakery/coffee shop is The Toy Works. This is a lovely workshop selling wooden toys and a must see if anyone decides to visit this lovely village. We also enjoyed some lovely walks around the village and also in the grounds of Melmerby Hall, to have everything on your doorstep simply made our vacation stress free and enjoyable. I have enjoyed visiting the lakes since celebrating my 18th there but have never quite found somewhere, where I could envisage coming back to. But from now on I very much doubt I will book with anyone else, The Rowley Estates has everything on offer and I hope to visit each year with my family so we can create some more memorable moments....now which one should I book to go to next??? Will be in touch soon with my next booking!! :-)

Liked best: The open fire...you can't beat an open fire on a cold autumn night!
Liked least: Travel cot... my son didn't seem to settle in this a proper cot would be better as the mattress is very thin.
