I stayed at the travelodge Canterbury for 4 nights from the 2nd to the 5th of August and was put in a room that was out of date and filthy. There was mould on the shower head and the shower curtain was black. The windows were rusty and the window sills were rotten. I will not be using that hotel again

The reviews say this hotel is tired and dated and yes that’s correct , ,,,,
but what makes it stand out are the manager and his staff .
I stay in hotels on my own 2/3 nights a week , most weeks ,, and to come across staff who were so caring and making sure I was ok was great
The staff went above and beyond to make my stay as pleasant as possible.
The hotel menu choice isn’t massive but what I had was very enjoyable and hot
The shower was great
The car park can get full but I was lucky I was able to get a space
The location is very close to the shops
If you want a shiny bright new hotel this isn’t for you
But if you want caring staff who give 100% genuine customer service you won’t be disappointed

The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Couldn’t fault them but the hotel itself was awful.
The room had a strong smell of air freshener when walking in, which soon became clear was covering the smell of damp! The carpet felt damp and was dirty. Two of the lights in the room weren’t working, one of which was by the main mirror.
The bathroom had no window or extractor fan so steamed up quickly.
The saving Grace was that bedding was clean and comfortable enough for a night.
Breakfast the following morning wasn’t a great experience. Again the staff member did his best but was on his own. Tables needed clearing, milk ran out, coffee machine showed errors due to not emptying waste tray and coffee beans running out and the juice machine ran out of orange juice. These things obviously do happen but the area wasn’t overly busy and could easily have been kept on top of with enough staff. There was a wait for hot food to be replenished which to be honest wasn’t worth the wait. For the price we would have been better off going into Canterbury for a breakfast at one of the many cafes (just a short walk away).
I would not return to or recommend this hotel.

Everything is very old, thin wall, we can hear people talking in other rooms. Both me and my daughter couldn't sleep well as there was a very noisy couple in the room below us. The whole hotel needs a refurbishment

Avoid this hotel at all costs! The building is not fit for purpose: it is in a terrible condition and urgently needs to be replaced by a modern building. Our room was tiny and smelled. The staff we met were both friendly and helpful however.
