We needed somewhere to stay near London that had parking and pleasant facilities without coasting the earth. Ardmore House was perfect. Clean and convenient with very helpful staff and first class food for both dinner and breakfast. We were able to walk to the station to take the train to London, very convenient.

Conveniently placed for the station and a stroll into the town centre, the hotel is on a quiet street with pretty grounds at the rear. Very friendly & helpful staff & good breakfast included in the rate. More car parking than you might glean from Google Earth as there is a big one at the rear. However initial impression on entering room was an overpowering impression of damp. In fact it wasn't particularly but a combination of weak air extraction from the bathroom & the window being firmly fixed close made for an unfortunate first impression

I travel extensively on business and have stayed in hundreds of hotels during the last 15 years. My travels recently brought me to this hotel for three consecutive weekends The Ardmore House Hotel has : Extremely helpful staff, charmingly decorated bedrooms, a wide selection of good food & wine and a terrace overlooking a beautifully kept large garden with pond. The perfect place to unwind after a busy day or as i witnessed a wedding and reception ( they must have amazing photographs). I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to stay here again. Thank you.

Room Tip: over looking the garden

Ardmore House Hotel could probably be called Ardmore Houses Hotel, as it not only has the main building but additional other large houses next door providing accommodation as well.
We stayed two nights in a triple room in one such annex.
The room was very reasonably priced and the location explained it, it's not often that you have to brave the elements to get breakfast.
The room we had was on the third floor - 33 awkward steps with suitcases, (no lift). Equipped for business travellers it had three single beds in a reasonably sized room in the eaves, with one window that could be opened only a crack - a real problem in summer as there is no other ventilation.
The room was well appointed and clean with a desk, chair and the usual tea and coffee facilities. A single small wardrobe and bedside units competed for floorspace with our luggage.
The bathroom consisted of one of the smallest showers possible, sink and toilet. It smelled vaguely of drains at all times.
Breakfast was included in the deal (about half the cost of other hotels in the area). Served in a large dining room, it was varied, with both continental and full English we cooked to order and promptly served by friendly efficient staff. Also in the hotel is an Italian restaurant (the Belvidere) which was described by the receptionist as 'one of the best in St Albans' - a statement that proved to be totally accurate. We had a stunning meal in there with excellent service and allowed the shortcomings of the accommodation to be overlooked.
The hotel is close to the main rail line and an (at times) busy suburban street, so night time was a little noisy.
Overall average to marginal accommodation (I don't know if other rooms were better, but probably), countered by a first class restaurant.

We chose this for its proximity to the station and took the train to Kings Cross each day. 15 minutes on the frequent fast train and 25 minutes on the slow one ! 10 minutes walk to the centre of St Albans with a small supermarket and several restaurants. No fridge in the room but staff were very helpful in keeping my insulin in the kitchen fridge.

Room Tip: Most rooms are probably equivalent.
