Great style and lovely staff

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Dec 2024via mobile
A very warm welcome including a free snack and cocktail. Great decoration and ambiance in the bar, dining area & reception. Limited parking spaces but we were successful in getting one & other options are available close by. The room was cosy, but the decoration was great. The bathroom was also very smart with a good quality shower. However it was let down by a smell of drains in the bathroom. The air-con also gave us problems and we were unable to get it below 27C which made for an uncomfortable nights sleep. We did report the issues so hopefully they’ve been attended too. A really great breakfast selection, much better than anything available in other local hotels nearby like Premier Inn or Holiday Inn. We’d definitely recommend this hotel which had great style and value for money.

Well!.....I wasn't expecting what Moxy had to offer, despite good reviews. A great value hotel in a superb location and just that tad different. Clearly targeting the cruise clientèle the hotel has a mix of young AND retro in its concept. Yep, it's just a hotel but at 73 years of age I found the decor uplifting and cheerful. Staff were friendly and helpful. Superbly clean. The biggest and best TV I think I've ever seen in a hotel (HD too, I think), with a VERY broad range of channels. A very good selection at breakfast. Hardly worth complaining about a few minor food niggles. Free 'cocktail' on arrival was a bonus. I really wish that double rooms provided two chairs though. No real desk space.

Room tip: The reception area is incorporated into the bar area. Directional signs pointing this out more clearly would be useful.

Excellent value. Clean and new. Nothing not to like. Would recommend. Comfortable. Friendly staff. Park in west quay for £5 overnight. Nicer than a premier inn and same price. Bring your own shower gel. Quiet rooms. Good value. Would stay again.

Our experience with the customer service at this hotel was deeply disappointing. Despite booking two rooms under one reservation, we arrived at reception only to be told, by a man who seemed to be acting towards other members of staff as though he was in charge, that this wasn’t acceptable and a new room would have to be booked. The explanation made no sense and resulted in unnecessary confusion and wasted time.

To make matters worse, the staff member repeatedly insisted that my elderly mother-in-law, who was clearly struggling after standing for too long, come to the desk to pay—despite my clear explanation that I was covering the cost. I even showed the confirmation email proving everything was already in order, but the staff member refused to listen or take the time to understand.

This caused significant frustration and stress, especially for my mother-in-law, and set a terrible tone for the rest of our stay. A hotel stay should begin with hospitality and efficiency, but this was anything but. I would not recommend staying here based on this experience alone.

We recently stayed at the Moxy because we were seeing a stage show at The Mayflower. The hotel is a short walk away from the theatre. The room was small but nicely appointed. The basics were all there, and the room clean.
Breakfast had everything from continental to full English.
I would definitely recommend to stay in this hotel

This was my 3rd stay for a project. It's not a classic business hotel, but its in a great location with easy parking and close to great dining and shopping. What makes me return is the great staff here. Check in is always fun with helpful suggestions, the rooms are cleaned daily (and well!) and the bar at night is busy with excellent service.

There's no desk in the room; you can make do by moving the kettle off to clear a small space, but I spent the majority of the day at the office. Parking at the hotel can be difficult, but it so close to West Quay that you can park on the lower level and cut through.

Breakfast is awesome at this hotel and a great way to start the day for a reasonable price.

Room tip: Sign up for breakfast. Parking at West Quay is easier. Ask the front desk for food recommendations.
