The hotel is under new ownership and is going through a major refurbishment. This obviously has some impact on the hotel's functions. Eventually the basement will be converted into a gym and swimming pool. Although it still has an air of "faded glory" about it, there are many signs of improvement. The seaview rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors are impressive, with very good views. Many have balconies. The hotel is situated next to Southsea Common, which is why we like it. Breakfast is buffet style, with plenty of choice. We have not had lunch or dinner there because there are many other good dining places nearby. The staff are helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are quieter if there is a function on.

Due to the leift being out of service for nearly a week it was impossible to get a mobility scooter into hotel. There was also two flights of stairs to each floor and were told there .
were no rooms on ground floor. If they had notified us a few days before we would have gone elsewhere and not struggled with no offer of help from staff. Room was fine as was food. Shame reception staff were not helpful at all.

Dear Chris

Thank you for your review.

I am so sorry for the issues with our lift, please also accept my sincerest apologies if some staff members were not as helpful as they could have been. We pride ourselves on delivering the very best customer service so I am so sorry if we did not live up to our own very high standards on this occasion.

I would like to assure you that we are working very hard to get our lift up and running as soon as possible.

Lovely carvery on a sunday for my parents 40th wedding anniversary. All staff was very attentive. Would highly recommend. The music was 2 guys. 1 on a keyboard and one on a saxophone. They was really good. The surroundings are nice but in need of a lot of money spent on a proper refurbishment. Not just a lick of paint. Would revisit again soon.

Went here on a 40th wedding anniversary 6 adults 2 children the staff were beyond exceptional everyone from the front desk to the serving staff . The hotel has recently been bought out and is undergoing a refit. The food was great value and plenty of it we had the cavery a special mention needs to go to Megan who was on her toes all the time making sure we were enjoying the food also the guy serving the meat. He spoke to everyone as if they were a friend and with curtisy beyond what would be expected of him. The staff here are great accett to the queens hotel

A grand old Victorian hotel located on the Southsea Common (the English Channel being on the other side). There was no air conditioning (not expected given the age of the hotel) but we had a large room, windows that opened and an electric fan.
