This beautiful old house displays itself unostentatiously but with great charm and warmth (including a wonderful open fire that the resident dog loves to linger by). This really is the quintessential bed and breakfast experience in a small town that is itself unique.

We stayed at Ashton House for two nights September 23/24th. We had to come back to Painswick and Aston House after staying here while walking the Cotswold Way last year. Philippa and Steve are very welcoming, warm and connecting hosts. Their old home is beautiful with large exposed beams and natural aging in every nook and cranny. Breakfast is in the amazing dining area with it's massive fireplace and their dog warming itself right by the fire. With our return visit and two night stay, we wanted to do some local hiking. Philippa told us about a circular walk that took in everything that we wanted to do. She gave us detailed instructions, prepared by Steve and we had a great day hike taking in sites that we would not have otherwise seen. The next morning, Steve gave us more local information on the local villages and area history. We loved our stay here and would certainly return.

Philippa could not have been a more accommodating host, right down to bringing our forgotten phone charger to our next venue! She obviously loves meeting and engaging people, and she and her husband, Steve, seemed like old friends in less than 24 hours; we could not have felt more at home. Though what a "home"! A charmingly renovated, 400-year old house, our room a sunsplashed hideway, the dining room as if out of Henry VIII. The only slight downside was the bathroom, a tiny, hallway room, which, though not shared, was somewhat less than private or commodious. However, we completely forgot about that in the lovely ambience and generally warm feel of the whole experience. A highlight of our Cotswold Walk!

Room tip: Ask about the bathrooms!

Philippa and Steve are fantastic hosts at Aston House. They treated us like old friends and shared stories of the area and town. I would love to spend more time there. The room was very comfortable and if you want to learn more of the history of the area, just ask Steve! Breakfast served with special attention to requests and enjoyed in front of a impressive fireplace. Lucky you if you stay with them!

Stayed here at the end of October on our way down south. Our host Philippa was very welcoming as was her dog!!! Accommodation was clean & comfortable the breakfast delicious but the little extras were missing - very basic tea & coffee making facilities in the room(only 1 cup!!), shower gel, no brochures showing local facilities, details of whats available for breakfast etc.etc The room needed a bit of refreshing.as well.We also thought it was a bit expensive for what we got.

Room tip: Back room is probably quieter. But as the location is in a village it is understandable there is some traffic noise.
