Booked Blackthorn to celebrate my Fiancé's 40th Birthday and it didn't disappoint, if anything the pictures on the website don't actually do it justice.
Peter and Karen are fantastic hosts - we were greeted with a complimentary bottle of Prosecco, and a Birthday card which was a lovely touch - not to mention freshly laid duck eggs! They are on hand in the event of any problems, but not intrusive in any way.
Blackthorn is in an ideal location in many ways being a 10 minute drive from Rye and 20 mins from Camber. A cracking local pub (The Queens Head) is approx 15 minutes walk and the Robin Hood even closer, although we ran out of time to try it out.
Facilities were excellent, the views stunning and the hot tub was the ideal way to relax (with a glass of fizz obviously!). There is a lovely outdoor seating area, which is a bit of a sun trap. A great spot to sit and have breakfast while enjoying the amazing views.

We ate at The Tuscan Kitchen the night after you for my birthday (sadly NOT my 40th) and we must have another excuse to revisit The Ambrette too some time... Rye is now full of great places to eat - many of them quite individual and distinctive, with lots of locally sourced produce, such as Romney Marsh salted lamb, and fresh fish straight off the boats!
Incidentally, TripAdvisor are offering a free professional photo shoot to listings so I may get in touch with them as I think you're right: our current photos don't really give you a sense of the place or the surroundings....
Hopefully we'll see again and you can experience more of the delights of this fabulous area!

My partner and I stayed here for a well deserved break. And it did not disappoint. Peter and Karen were very friendly and helpful regarding the local area. Blackthorn was perfect and had everything that we needed. The swimming pool and hot tub were an added bonus. we will be booking to come back.

Blackthorn is a beautiful cottage set in gorgeous, peaceful countryside. The cottage itself had everything we needed, and we loved enjoying the novelties of a log-burning stove and the outdoor hot tub. On the few occasions we managed to drag ourselves away from the cottage there is plenty to do nearby e.g. Winchlesea, Camber, Rye, countryside walks, pubs, etc.

My Husband and I stayed at Blackthorn cottage for 3 nights and we did not want to leave!! In fact we booked to go back right there and then! Blackthorn cottage is stunning, clean and modern with everything you need for a self catering trip. The bed is so comfortable, the shower lovely and we loved using the hot tub and pool! We ate in 2 of the nights and loved sitting in front of the log fire with a gorgeous view over the countryside. We walked to the local pub The Robin Hood for dinner one night which was lovely and also had lunch at The Queens head which is a short drive away, lovely and cosy country pubs serving lovely food!
The hosts Peter and Karen are so friendly and helpful and were there to give any advice we needed (even lending my husband some flip flops for the pool!). They have thought of everything and ensure you have all the info you need on the local area. We cannot wait to return!! Thanks so much Peter & Karen for the most relaxing weekend in your wonderful cottage! We cant recommend Blackthorn Cottage highly enough!!

In this special part of East Sussex there is always something to discover - we've currently got the Scallop Festival in Rye - but when you return in late July the area of Rye Bay will be positively bursting with things to do and places to visit that you may need to book another break later in the year! One of my favourite weekend trips in the summer is taking a boat from the Bodiam Boating Station up river to the magnificent castle, and returning by steam (care of the Kent and East Sussex Railway), and walking across the valley through the long grass to a refreshing cuppa and suitably large helping of cake at the Bodiam Boating Station's stunning, oak-framed restaurant. They also hire rowing boats and kayaks for simply 'messing about on the river' or for the more adventurous why not head down stream with a picnic in the direction of Rye? Roll on summer!

My partner and I stayed at Blackthorn for two nights during October. Set in beautiful grounds, the comfortable apartment comes with exclusive use of a indoor heated swimming pool and outdoor hot tub, perfect for those chilly nights. Peter and Karen were perfect hosts, and provided a lot of useful information on the local and surrounding area, and things to do. Unfortunately we could only book 2 days for this visit, but we're definitely hoping to return in the summer. We also accidentally left an item behind, fortunately Peter contacted us and sent the item back. Big thank you and we'll see you guys again soon!

Please do try and return in the summer but be aware that even dates for next June, for example, are going fast? There is so much to see and do especially in high season that I know you'll have a memorable holiday, and it would be great to see you both again, and point you in the direction of some special places. Glad to know the parcel arrived safely too.
