We stayed here one Saturday night as it was convenient for the Ferry we were taking the next day. We received a lovely warm welcome from the guy on reception and we were able to park right out the front of the hotel. There is very limited parking at the front and we were lucky but they do have an arrangement with a big Sainsbury covered car park right next door should you need it. The public rooms were fresh and comfortable. Our bedroom was a good size if a little tired but the bathroom was good with all the amenities required. We ate dinner in the restaurant which was not very busy but I have to say the food was surprisingly good. We had beautifully cooked and fresh halibut which was well presented and tasted wonderful. We sent our thanks to the chef as it was that good. the serving staff were very helpful and friendly indeed. The ext. morning we had breakfast there too (which we paid for separately but it was only £11 for a full English ( I think it was £5 for a continental) and again the quality of food was excellent and the waiting staff ditto.

We did have one upset, which was when the smoke alarm inthe bathroom went off inthe middle of the noght for no reason, but it was over in afew seconds and we were able to fall staright back to sleep in our very comfortabke beds.

I guess that I was expecting a very ordainary stay here, being one in a chain of hotels, but the staff and the food made all the difference and instead of an avergae stay we had a really good one!

Room Tip: If you are following Sat Nav to find the hotel make sure you look out for a big Sainsburys as the access at the front isnt obvious

Brilliant location to the town and just a short walk to the Hoe and Barbican, lovely spacious room though is in need if some updating especially the bathroom and we found the windows let in a lot of outside noise, there seems to be signs of refurbishment since my last visit within in the hotel which looks good, staff were helpful and pleasant, we will chose this hotel to stay again because it's good value and close to everything Plymouth has to offer.

This hotel is oddly configured and the decor suggests it’s badly in need of being brought up to date . But it’s clean , the rooms are sizable and the food in the bistro is decent. The staff are friendly and helpful too. For a business overnight it’s perfectly acceptable if unremarkable . In the restaurant the food is tasty and there’s a good choice . The soup was good and the wild mushroom pie were good choices .

Dear LeedsCritic,

Thank you for taking the time to submit a positive review after your recent stay with us. We sincerely appreciate your positive feedback on our room size, cleanliness standards and quality of our facilities and food in our 50 Degrees North Brasserie. We are delighted to see that you enjoyed your stay with us.

I have taken note of your constructive comment on the need to further refurbish certain aspects of our business; specifically our rooms. As with our recent restaurant and bar refurbishment which we completed in February this year, we are also busy working through our rooms with a replacement and redecoration program. We have this week completed 69 of our 135 rooms and the balance are being actively progressed to complete this program within the next 6 months. It is our intention to address all areas of the building to similarly modernise the overall product offering.

Thank you again for your feedback and we hope that you will stay with us again on your next return to Plymouth.

Kind Regards,

Trevor Vels | General Manager
