The White Hart is one of the oldest buildings in Exeter and, unlike some reviewers, I'm rather pleased that it isn't a squeaky clean, modern hotel. Granted, it is a wee bit faded and could do with a bit of a refurb, but our room on the third floor was large, clean and very comfortable.

Check in was friendly and efficient, and breakfast was fine. We had the cooked breakfast which was pretty much what you would be served in a decent transport cafe - and I mean that as a bit of a compliment. Service was quick and friendly.

From a practical perspective, the White Hart is ideally situated in the middle of the city, and the car park is large and easily accessible. As such, if you are driving to Exeter, I can't imagine finding a better hotel.

Buildings mixture of old and new. Rooms in annex (ie newer building) good size, clean, good towels. Shelf for tea making kit great...no squashing up your possessions to make room for a tray on the dressing table. Bar full of odd corners and LOTS of knick knacks. Food burgers and chips type, so ate out. Breakfast choice of cooked or continental. Disappointing continental choice...a few pastries, a few bananas ,cereal and small 'lite' yoghurts (all strawberry). Some juices.
Staff friendly...except guy on Reception...he really wasnt interested....in the customers or his job.

We were a little unsure as some of the reviews were not great, but we could not have been happier. We were in the annex, but would have been equally happy in the old part. What a lovely old building. Parking included in the price really added to the value for money, and the hotel is so convenient for the city centre. Really just up the road and turn right - 5 mins away. It was a bonus that we could stay in the car park until 4 the next day. The cooked breakfast was lovely, the bed comfy, room clean etc. We ate in the pub in the evening, and enjoyed the typical pub grub. Have no hesitation in recommending. Didn't see any ghosts.....

Nice room spotlessly clean, good breakfast. Very helpful staff. Parking on site a real bonus. Easy to walk to town and Exeter Quays. lovely hotel with a bit of character. We will definitely visit again.

The White Hart seems to have got worse since I last reviewed it. We didn't have breakfast as last time it was awful, so ate elsewhere. None of the staff seem to have had any training in how to interact with the customers. On checking in, the receptionist did not smile and there wasn't even an attempt to be friendly. The calibre of staff has sadly gone downhill and on leaving the receptionist didn't even acknowledge our departure. Our bottles of water in the room were not replaced but left from the previous night although we had almost finished them. Sadly i would advise visitors to look elsewhere as the food and service is poorly lacking!
